Professor Hyojin Han's research lab focuses on health economics and public policy, particularly examining the socioeconomic impacts of healthcare reforms such as the Affordable Care Act's dependent mandate. The lab also investigates urban population dynamics and behavioral responses to public health interventions, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the lab explores advanced oxide materials, including double perovskites like Ba₂FeMoO₆, for their magnetic and transport properties at room temperature. These diverse research directions reflect a strong interdisciplinary approach combining social science, public health, and materials science.

IEEE International Digest of Technical Papers on Magnetics Conference

Summary form only given. Ba/sub 2/FeMoO/sub 6/ (BFMO) shows room temperature magnetoresistance (MR) and ferrimagnetic phase transition with T/sub c//spl sim/320-340 K. This compound has an ordered double perovskite structure, in which the Fe and Mo ions are arranged alternatively with ideal saturation moment of 4 /spl mu//sub B//f.u. Low-field MR in BFMO can be explained by intergrain tunneling due to spin dependent scattering at the grain boundary and the degree of ordering.

Does health insurance always increase medical spending? Evidence from the affordable care act dependent mandate
http://jer.or.kr/

The Affordable Care Act Dependent Mandate (ACA-DM) has increased young adults’ health insurance coverage through parents’ employer-sponsored health insurance. This could have increased employers’ labor costs and thus reduced parents’ wages. In this study, we examine the effects of the ACA-DM on family income and medical spending. Using a difference-in-differences approach, we find evidence that the ACA-DM decreased family income but did not increase young adults’ medical spending. The results im
