Professor Hyoseon Jang's research lab focuses on respiratory and critical care medicine, with a strong emphasis on interstitial lung diseases, post-tuberculous complications, and thoracic vascular disorders. The lab investigates the clinical outcomes, risk factors, and long-term impacts of conditions such as bronchiectasis, primary spontaneous pneumothorax, and thoracic aortic dissection, particularly in young and preterm populations. Using advanced imaging techniques like high-resolution computed tomography, the lab explores the role of structural lung abnormalities—such as blebs and bullae—in disease progression and recurrence. Their work also evaluates the feasibility and outcomes of early surgical interventions in critical neonatal and adult patients.

15Subjects with bronchiectasis suffered from more respiratory symptoms with limited physical activity and poorer quality of life than the general population. Factors independently associated with bronchiectasis were lower family income and comorbid pulmonary conditions, such as previous pulmonary TB, asthma, and airflow limitation.
