Professor Hyoun Woo Kang's research lab focuses on the interplay between body composition, metabolic health, and gastrointestinal diseases. The lab investigates how visceral adiposity, insulin resistance, and sarcopenia contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome, colorectal neoplasms, and functional gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome and functional dyspepsia. Using advanced imaging techniques like CT and clinical epidemiological approaches, the lab explores the pathophysiological links between obesity-related parameters and chronic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. The research also extends to endoscopic interventions, particularly self-expandable metal stents in benign and malignant upper GI strictures, and vaccine safety, particularly regarding adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination.

15Visceral obesity was found to be an independent risk factor of colorectal adenoma, and insulin resistance was associated with the presence of colorectal adenoma.
