Professor Hyoungju Kwon's research lab specializes in surgical oncology and molecular epidemiology, with a focus on thyroid and breast cancers. The lab investigates the role of microbiome composition—particularly the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio—in cancer progression and prognosis, while also advancing robotic surgery through AI-driven instrument tracking and skill assessment. This systematic review with meta-analysis found that multifocality was significantly associated with an increased risk of recurrence in patients with PTC, while cancer-specific survival showed no difference. Differences in tumor size, number of tumor foci, and patient age should be considered when interpreting the multifocality and the risk of recurrence.
