Professor Hyoyul Yang's research lab specializes in high-energy astrophysics, with a primary focus on multi-messenger astronomy—particularly the study of gravitational waves, gamma-ray bursts, and their electromagnetic counterparts. The lab conducts detailed analyses of data from space-based observatories such as Fermi-GBM and Swift-BAT to search for coincident high-energy signals associated with gravitational wave events detected by Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo. Their work emphasizes transient source detection, cross-messenger correlation, and the characterization of high-energy phenomena in the context of cosmic cataclysms like neutron star mergers. The lab also contributes to the development of advanced search algorithms for subthreshold and untriggered transient signals.
