研究室紹介

Professor Hyun Jang Jeong's research lab specializes in orthopedic surgery and shoulder arthroplasty, with a strong focus on rotator cuff repair techniques, implant biomechanics, and postoperative complications. The lab investigates clinical outcomes, structural integrity, and long-term functional recovery following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, while also exploring novel techniques such as transosseous anchorless repair to minimize complications. A key area of interest is the identification and prediction of rare but serious postoperative conditions like pseudoparalysis and osteonecrosis of the humeral head, using large-scale clinical data and biomechanical modeling. The lab integrates clinical research with advanced imaging and surgical outcome analysis to improve patient-centered care in shoulder surgery.

Retear After Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair Results in Functional Outcome Deterioration Over Time
Hyeon Jang Jeong, Kyung Pyo Nam, Ji Hyun Yeo, Sung-Min Rhee, Joo Han Oh
SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of retear on long-term functional outcomes and glenohumeral joint osteoarthritis (OA) progression after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ASRCR). METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 201 patients who underwent ASRCR and were followed up for at least 5 years. Rotator cuff tendon structural integrity was evaluated using magnetic resonance imaging and/or ultrasonography. Pain, active range of motion, and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Stand

Pullout Strength of All‐Suture Anchors: Effect of the Insertion and Traction Angle—A Biomechanical Study
Joo Han Oh, Hyeon Jang Jeong, Seok Hoon Yang, Sung-Min Rhee, Yasuo Itami, Michelle H. McGarry, Thay Q. Lee
SJR Q1Arthroscopy The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery

PURPOSE: To evaluate the pullout strength of the all-suture anchor (ASA), based on the angles of anchor insertion and traction. METHODS: ) with 3 mm thick cortical bone models were used. ASAs were inserted at 45°, 60°, 75°, or 90° and pulled at 2 angles from the surface: 45° (simulating the physiological pull of the supraspinatus) and 90° (simulating pulling out during knot tying). Five consecutive pullout tests for each insertion and traction angle combination per saw bone were conducted to eva

Postoperative New-Onset Pseudoparalysis: A Retrospective Analysis of 430 Consecutive Arthroscopic Repairs for Large to Massive Rotator Cuff Tears
Hyeon Jang Jeong, Sung-Min Rhee, Joo Han Oh
SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports Medicine

BACKGROUND: The authors have sometimes encountered postoperative new-onset pseudoparalysis (PONP) after arthroscopic repair for large to massive rotator cuff tear (ARCR). As there are insufficient data regarding PONP, the authors aimed to determine whether such a condition is characterized by obvious risk factors, as well as to assess the conditions under which it can be reversed. PURPOSE: To evaluate the predictors of PONP development after ARCR and its reversal and to integrate these predictor

Arthroscopic transosseous anchorless rotator cuff repair reduces bone defects related to peri-implant cyst formation: a comparison with conventional suture anchors using propensity score matching
Hyeon Jang Jeong, Ji Soo Lee, Young Kyu Kim, Sung-Min Rhee, Joo Han Oh
SJR Q2Clinics in Shoulder and ElbowOA

BACKGROUND: The transosseous anchorless repair (ToR) technique was recently introduced to avoid suture anchor-related problems. While favorable outcomes of the ToR technique have been reported, no previous studies on peri-implant cyst formation with the ToR technique exist. Therefore, this study compared the clinical outcomes and prevalence of peri-implant cyst formation between the ToR technique and the conventional transosseous equivalent technique using suture anchors (SA). METHODS: Cases wit

Comparison between osteonecrosis of the humeral and femoral heads - epidemiological analysis of the surgical trend using the nationwide claims database of the republic of Korea

SJR Q2BMC Musculoskeletal DisordersOA

BACKGROUNDS: The humeral head is the second most common site of osteonecrosis, after the femoral head. However, compared to osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), epidemiological information on osteonecrosis of the humeral head (ONHH) is scarce. We hypothesised that different biomechanical properties of the shoulder from the hip joint might present different epidemiological characteristics of ONHH from those of the ONFH. To evaluate epidemiological differences, we compared trends in the surgi

Trabecular Bone Score Could Not Predict the Bone Mineral Density of Proximal Humerus
Hyeon Jang Jeong, Joong Mo Ahn, Joo Han Oh
SJR Q2Journal of Bone MetabolismOA

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis is an important clinical factor for tendon healing after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). Conventional dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of the hip and lumbar spine (LS) does not represent proximal humeral bone mineral density (BMD). Theoretically, direct measurement of the BMD of the proximal humerus is the best method; however, it is not popular and is non-standardized. Therefore, we evaluate whether the trabecular bone score (TBS) using LS DXA would repre

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

To compare the postoperative estimated-glomerular-filtration-rate (eGFR) and parenchymal changes between cold ischemia and zero/selective ischemia for a T1a mass. We analyzed 104 patients who underwent open partial nephrectomy with cold ischemia (53) or zero/selective ischemia (51) for T1a between 2008 and 2018 to determine postoperative renal function changes and associated factors. Postoperative renal function was expressed as (postoperative-eGFR - preoperative-eGFR)/preoperative-eGFR × 100%.

Primary epididymal lymphomas are very rare condition, only 6 case report was published. In 4 of them, initial presentation was non-tender, continuous growth of testis. It can be misdiagnosed with epididymitis, 5 of them was treated by antibiotics before surgery. One patients treated by surgery another 5 makes neoadjuvant therapy, 2 of radiotherapy 3 of chemotherapy. Only one man died after treatment. This case is about 54-year male patients, diagnosed by diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, who treate
