Professor Hyun-jun Hong's research lab specializes in head and neck surgical oncology and regenerative medicine, with a strong focus on improving surgical outcomes and developing innovative reconstructive techniques for head and neck defects. The lab investigates advanced surgical approaches such as modified facelift incisions in parotidectomy, evidence-based treatment protocols for oral cancer, and minimally invasive techniques like pulsed dye laser glottoplasty for voice disorders. A central theme in the lab’s work is tissue engineering, particularly using autologous and allogeneic chondrocytes combined with biocompatible hydrogels and scaffolds for tracheal reconstruction. The lab also explores risk stratification in stroke outcomes among patients with atrial fibrillation, reflecting a broader interest in clinical outcomes and patient-centered research.

Carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (CEPA) is a rare, aggressive, poorly understood malignancy. In CEPA, an epithelial malignancy develops in association with a primary or recurrent benign pleomorphic adenoma.
