Professor Hyun-Kuk Lee's research lab specializes in surgical oncology and gastrointestinal surgery, with a focus on the molecular mechanisms of gastric carcinoma and the clinical outcomes of minimally invasive surgical techniques. The lab investigates tumor suppressor genes and biomarkers in gastric cancer, aiming to improve diagnostic and prognostic accuracy. It also conducts long-term clinical studies on laparoscopic common bile duct exploration, evaluating surgical outcomes, stone recurrence, and bile duct complications. Additionally, the lab contributes to the validation of cancer staging systems, particularly for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors.

This is the first large-scale validation of the AJCC 8th edition staging system for PNET. The revised 8th system provides better discrimination compared to that of the 7th edition and ENETS TNM system. This supports the clinical use of the system.
