Professor Hyun Sung Kim's research lab specializes in advanced materials development for energy and biomedical applications, with a strong focus on functional oxide semiconductors and their integration into high-performance electronic and catalytic systems. The lab investigates transparent oxide thin-film transistors for next-generation flexible and high-speed electronics, while also exploring novel photocatalysts for sustainable chemical conversion, particularly lignocellulose to valuable aromatics. In the clinical domain, the lab contributes to interventional radiology and minimally invasive therapies, particularly in treating liver diseases such as hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatic hydrothorax using transcatheter and shunt-based interventions.

A measurement method has been developed that can estimate carrier lifetimes and internal quantum efficiency (IQE) in semiconductor materials at room temperature.
