Professor Hyun Woo Kwon's research lab specializes in molecular and translational imaging, with a focus on positron emission tomography (PET) applications in oncology, neurology, and aging-related diseases. The lab investigates genomic instability, including somatic retrotransposition and mitochondrial DNA mosaicism, using single-cell genomics to understand age-related mutations. A key emphasis is on using advanced imaging techniques—particularly 18F-FDG and novel radioligands like [C]-(R)-PK11195—to assess disease progression, neuroinflammation, and radiation dosimetry in clinical settings. In this study, (18)F-FDG PET was an independent and significant predictor of tumor recurrence. In liver transplantation for HCC, (18)F-FDG PET can provide effective information on the prognosis for tumor recurrence and the selection of adequate candidates for liver transplantation.
