Professor Hyung Sun Kim's research lab focuses on translational oncology, particularly in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), with an emphasis on understanding and overcoming chemoresistance. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying gemcitabine resistance, explores repurposed drugs such as ivermectin and niclosamide as potential therapeutic agents, and utilizes advanced imaging techniques like texture analysis to predict patient outcomes. A key direction involves identifying novel therapeutic targets, such as the glutamine transporter SLC38A5, and exploring ferroptosis induction as a strategy to sensitize resistant tumors.

Ki-67 expression showed a substantial concordance between biopsy and surgical specimens. Extremely discordant Ki-67 levels may be associated with aggressive tumor biology.
