Professor Hyung Woo Park's research lab focuses on regenerative medicine and neurodegenerative disease therapeutics, with a strong emphasis on stem cell-based therapies for neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and ischemic stroke. The lab investigates novel delivery methods for neuroprotective agents like Coenzyme Q10 and explores the therapeutic potential of human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) in promoting neural repair and functional recovery. Additionally, the lab contributes to developmental biology by studying intestinal morphogenesis in human embryos, and it examines the impact of big data on data center infrastructure, particularly in high-throughput scientific computing environments.

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder, and no treatment has been yet established to prevent disease progression. Coenzyme Q10, an antioxidant, has been considered a promising neuroprotective agent; however, conventional oral administration provides limited efficacy due to its very low bioavailability. In this study, we hypothesised that continuous, intrastriatal administration of a low dose of Coenzyme Q10 could effectively prevent dopaminergic neuron degeneration. To this end, a P

Cell therapy is a potential therapeutic method for cerebral ischemia, which remains a serious problem. In the search for more effective therapeutic methods, many kinds of stem cells from various tissues have been developed and tested as candidate therapeutic agents. Among them, human umbilical cord blood (hUCB)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are widely used for cell therapy because of their genetic flexibility. To confirm that they are effective and understand how they affect ischemic neu

Birth Defects Research Part A Clinical and Molecular TeratologyOA

BACKGROUND: The existing data on intestinal rotation during human development are contradictory regarding the timing of major events, and as such an exact timetable for rotation of the intestine in humans is not yet available. METHODS: We studied the initial formation and rotation of the intestine by microdissection and histological observations in 72 human embryos and fetuses at two to 12 weeks postfertilization. The embryos were classified according to the Carnegie staging system. RESULTS: The

Stem cell therapies are administered during the acute phase of stroke to preserve the penumbral tissues from ischemic injury. However, the effect of repeated cell therapy during the acute phase remains unclear. In this study, we investigated and compared the functional outcome of single (two days post-injury) and repeated (two and nine days post-injury) treatment with human umbilical cord derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). The rotarod and li

Study on Big Data Center Traffic Management Based on the Separation of Large-Scale Data Stream
Hyung Woo Park, Il Yeon Yeo, Jongsuk Ruth Lee, Haengjin Jang

The network of traditional data center has been usually designed and constructed for the provision of user's equal access of data centre's resource or data. Therefore, network administrators have a strong tendency to manage user traffic from the viewpoint that the traffic has a similar size and characteristics. But, the emersion of big data begins to make data centers have to deal with 1015 byte-data transfer at once. Such a big data transfer can cause problems in network traffic management in t

SJR Q2Experimental NeurobiologyOA

Stroke is an ischemic disease caused by clotted vessel-induced cell damage. It is characterized by high morbidity and mortality and is typically treated with a tissue plasminogen activator (tPA). However, this therapy is limited by temporal constraints. Recently, several studies have focused on cell therapy as an alternative treatment. Most researches have used fixed donor cell administration, and hence, the effect of donor-dependent cell administration is unknown. In this study, we administered

Thousands of CPUs and storages are required for the analysis of scientific peta-byte scale data. The network interfaces of these systems are connected on a data center network for cluster computing and Grid computing for high throughput. Therefore, routing configuration of these network interfaces is usually set by internal routing protocols and set by having the only single gateway as a last resort or a default routing path. This style of routing configuration is the most typical configuration

Technological improvement in display industry, the organic light-emitting diode(OLED) panel manufacturer changed the quality of picture of the screen from simple high definition to an augmented-reality or a virtual-reality. And OLED that construct with the actual pixels and emit light by themselves are becoming widespread, making the thickness thinner and the bezel thinner or even disappearing. However, these technology improvement made it difficult to achieve sufficient performance in a small s

Study on network architecture of big data center for the efficient control of huge data traffic
Hyung Woo Park, Il Yeo, Jongsuk Lee, Haengjin Jang
SJR Q2Computer Science and Information SystemsOA

The network architecture of typical data centersis characterized bytiered networks and aggregation-based traffic controls. The emergence of big data makes it difficult for these data centers to incorporate big data service. The tier and aggregation based traffic management systems can magnify the seriousness of the traffic congestion and extend the congested region when big data moves around in the data center. As a consequence, big data has been forcing data centers to change their architecture
