研究室紹介

Professor Hyungsik Kim's research lab focuses on the immunomodulatory mechanisms of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), particularly human umbilical cord blood-derived MSCs (hUCB-MSCs), in treating chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases such as atopic dermatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. The lab investigates how MSCs regulate immune cell responses and tissue microenvironments, with an emphasis on NOD2 activation and macrophage polarization. Additionally, the lab explores the role of systemic factors—such as platelet count and periodontal pathogens like *Parvimonas micra*—in modulating inflammatory conditions and cancer progression. The integration of translational immunology with clinical epidemiology and bioengineering (e.g., filterless class D amplifiers) reflects a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and treating immune-mediated diseases.

Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) is a promising tool for the therapy of immune disorders. However, their efficacy and mechanisms in treating allergic skin disorders are less verified. We sought to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of human umbilical cord blood-derived MSCs (hUCB-MSCs) against murine atopic dermatitis (AD) and to explore distinct mechanisms that regulate their efficacy. AD was induced in mice by the topical application of Dermatophagoides farinae. Naïve or activated-hUCB-MSCs were

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a long-lasting intractable autoimmune disorder, which has become a substantial public health problem. Despite widespread use of biologic drugs, there have been uncertainties in efficacy and long-term safety. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been suggested as a promising alternative for the treatment of RA because of their immunomodulatory properties. However, the precise mechanisms of MSCs on RA-related immune cells are not fully elucidated. The aim of this study w

SJR Q1Therapeutic Advances in Musculoskeletal DiseaseOA

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial disease involving inflammatory processes. Platelets play important roles in both hemostasis and the inflammatory response; however, the relationship between platelet count and OA is unclear. Our aim was to evaluate the association between platelet count and knee and hip OA in Korean women. Methods: In this cross-sectional designed study, we included a total of 6011 women aged ⩾50 years from the 2010–2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Exam

SJR Q1IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics

A new and simple configuration of filterless class D audio amplifier is proposed in this paper. The proposed filterless class D audio amplifier provides the advantages of both low total system cost and generation of synchronized 3-level pulse-width modulated (PWM) output. Moreover, as a result of hysteresis window variation, a close to constant switching frequency of PWM output is obtained. The proposed filterless class D audio amplifier is verified by the PSpice simulation and prototype circuit

OBJECTIVE: Periodontitis and osteoarthritis are major public health concerns that result in decreased quality of life among middle-aged and older adults. We sought to examine whether the severity of periodontitis is related to osteoarthritis according to the presence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. METHODS: This study included 3,527 participants age ≥50 years from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Periodontitis was assessed using the Community Periodontal Index; severe pe

Parvimonas micra (Pm), a periodontal pathogen, has been implicated in the impairment of anti-tumor responses in colorectal cancer (CRC). The tumor microenvironment in CRC involves tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), which are pivotal in modulating tumor-associated immune responses. The polarization of TAMs towards an M2-like phenotype promotes CRC progression by suppressing the immune system. However, the mechanisms by which Pm affects the progression of CRC remain inadequately elucidated. In t

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the adhesion between dental core resin and epoxy resin-based fiber post after treatment with non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma (NTAPP) and compare with conventional methods of epoxy resin-based fiber post treatments. Contact angle was measured on the surface of epoxy resin before and after NTAPP treatment and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to analyze the surface chemistry. Finally, two shear bond strength tests were carried out; shear bon

Periprosthetic fractures are a serious complication of joint replacement surgery. With the growing prevalence of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA), the incidence of relatively uncommon periprosthetic humeral fractures has increased. Here, we present the unique case of a 74-year-old woman who developed atrophic non-union after plate osteosynthesis for a periprosthetic fracture associated with RTSA. Fixation failure was evident 3 months after the surgical intervention; the patient underwe
