Professor Hyunji Jo's research lab focuses on translational and molecular oncology, with a strong emphasis on identifying and validating novel biomarkers—particularly HER2 aberrations—in advanced cancers such as biliary tract cancer. The lab also investigates molecular mechanisms underlying drug resistance in cancer therapies, especially in HER2-positive breast cancer, with a focus on heat shock proteins like HSP27. Additionally, the lab explores novel anticancer agents targeting topoisomerase IIα and contributes to antimicrobial resistance research, including carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. Their work bridges basic molecular mechanisms with clinical applications, aiming to improve patient outcomes through precision medicine and targeted therapy.

Nine Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates coproducing NDM-1 and OXA-232 carbapenemases were successively isolated from a single patient. Although they were isolated simultaneously and were isogenic, they presented different colony phenotypes (matt and mucoid). Purpose: Patients with International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium (IMDC) poor risk metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) rarely respond to first-line tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) including sunitinib, and carries a very poor prognosis. In recent years, combination therapy involving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have demonstrated superior efficacy to sunitinib in poor risk disease.
