研究室紹介

Professor Il-dong Jeon's research lab specializes in experimental nuclear physics, with a focus on quantum phenomena in nuclear systems and the manipulation of nuclear level widths through electromagnetic interactions. The lab investigates the effects of nuclear recoil and γ-ray reabsorption in solid-state matrices, particularly using reflective materials like platinum to modify the linewidths of excited nuclear states. Their work explores fundamental aspects of nuclear decay dynamics and the potential for controlling nuclear properties in condensed matter environments.

A Possible Method to Make the Gamma-ray Spectrum Narrower
전일동

It is reported that the width of the rst excited state (7+2 , 37.133 keV) of 121 51 Sb embedded in an alloy ZnSb can be modified by reabsorption of γ rays scattered backward from a platinum reflector. The level width is reduced about 9.0 % at a temperature 4.2 K by a spherical reflector of 2.5 mm in radius made of platinum with a thickness of 0.5 mm. For the case of 133 55 Cs(5+/2 , 81 keV) embedded in a compound CsTiO3, the reduction of the level width is 3.2 %.
