Professor In Mok Jung's research lab specializes in vascular and transplant medicine, with a focus on endovascular interventions for venous insufficiency and long-term outcomes in kidney transplant recipients. The lab investigates innovative endovascular treatments such as endovenous laser therapy and radiofrequency ablation, particularly in combination with phlebectomy, to improve clinical outcomes in patients with saphenous vein incompetence. Additionally, the lab conducts retrospective and cohort studies to evaluate metabolic markers—like phosphorus levels—and viral infections (e.g., HBV, HCV, EBV) in transplant patients, aiming to identify prognostic factors and optimize post-transplant care.

15OBJECTIVES: The aim of this retrospective study is to assess the safety and effectiveness of endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) combined with ambulatory phlebectomy (AP) as a single procedure for treating saphenous vein incompetence. METHODS: The study enrolled 148 patients with saphenofemoral or saphenopopliteal junction reflux associated with saphenous vein incompetence and enlarged branch veins. Patients were treated with EVLT (135 great saphenous veins, 41 small saphenous veins) concomitantly
Background and objectives Hyperphosphatemia in kidney transplant recipients has been shown to predict poorer graft and patient survival. However, studies examining hypophosphatemia are scarce. Design, setting, participants, & measurements To evaluate the association of serum phosphorus level with patient and graft survival, we performed a retrospective multicenter cohort study. Between January of 1997 and August of 2012, 2786 kidney transplant recipients (41.7±11.4 years; 59.3% men; 73.5% li
Activated beta-catenin is suggested to inhibit NF-kappaB activation, and we previously demonstrated that NF-kappaB nuclear positivity was more frequent in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-infected gastric carcinomas. It is controversial that beta-catenin and E-cadherin are prognostic markers in gastric carcinomas. To define a relationship between beta-catenin and EBV, and the prognostic value of beta-catenin and E-cadherin, we analyzed in situ hybridization for EBV-encoded small RNAs, beta-catenin, and
Clinical outcomes in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) with hepatitis B virus (HBV) have not been thoroughly evaluated. Here, we investigated recent posttransplant clinical outcomes of KTRs with HBV and compared them with KTRs with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and seronegative KTRs.Of 3855 KTRs from April 1999 to December 2011, we enrolled 3482 KTRs who had viral hepatitis serology data; the patients were followed up for 89.1 ± 54.1 months. The numbers of recipients with HBV and HCV were 160 (4.6%)
This study has shown that the adequate positioning of RFA catheter tip (2.0-2.5 cm) is recommended to decrease the incidence of EHIT.
Objectives The aim of this study was to describe the changes of deep vein reflux after radiofrequency ablation for great saphenous vein incompetence. Method The data on 139 limbs which were treated with radiofrequency ablation for great saphenous vein incompetence were prospectively collected and reviewed. Results Deep vein reflux was present in 43 of 139 limbs (30.9%). There were no significant differences in the rate of successful closure, the incidence of procedure-related complications, and
Objective: Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are considered the first choice for venous access in end-stage renal disease patients, however, they are also known to have a high primary failure rate (early thrombosis and maturation failure). Of these, the outcome of thrombosed immature AVFs is not well known. This study aimed to investigate the outcome of AVFs with early thrombosis. Methods: Patients who underwent AVF creation from January 2009 to December 2019 at Seoul National University Hospital or
BACKGROUND: Several modalities are used for the treatment of varicose veins. Open surgical treatment with ligation and stripping of the saphenous vein has been the standard of care for many years. Endovenous thermal ablation has been shown to be a safe and effective alternative with high, long-term, target-vein closure rates. Despite this, there is the possibility of thermal injury to surrounding structures. The recently introduced cyanoacrylate closure is also considered to be a good alternativ
