Professor Jae Chan Lee's research lab specializes in the development of advanced heterogeneous catalysts for sustainable chemical transformations, particularly in biomass conversion and renewable fuel production. The lab focuses on enhancing catalytic activity and stability through innovative materials design, such as bimetallic systems and atomic layer deposition (ALD)-derived protective coatings. Key research directions include aqueous-phase hydrogenation (APH) of biomass-derived oxygenates, hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of bio-oils, and selective oxidation processes for high-value chemicals. The lab also investigates the fundamental structure-activity relationships in transition metal catalysts to enable efficient, selective, and durable catalytic systems.
