研究室紹介

Professor Jae-Gu Jo's research lab focuses on toxicological and molecular mechanisms underlying environmental and clinical health effects, with a strong emphasis on nanomaterial toxicity, respiratory and otological diseases, and head and neck pathology. The lab investigates the developmental and acute toxicity of nanoparticles such as silver nanoparticles in model organisms like medaka, explores the impact of cigarette smoke on tissue remodeling through MMP/TIMP regulation in nasal fibroblasts, and examines molecular markers in diseases such as cholesteatoma and schwannoma. The lab integrates molecular biology, histopathology, and clinical correlations to identify biomarkers and pathogenic mechanisms in chronic inflammatory and neoplastic conditions.

The developmental toxicity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was investigated following exposure of Oryzias latipes (medaka) embryos to 0.1-1 mg/L of homogeneously dispersed AgNPs for 14 days. During this period, developmental endpoints, including lethality, heart rate, and hatching rate, were evaluated by microscopy for different stages of medaka embryonic development. To compare toxic sensitivity, acute adult toxicity was assessed. There was no difference in acute lethal toxicity between embryo

Cigarette smoke exposure has been shown to be associated with chronic rhinosinusitis and tissue remodeling. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of cigarette smoke extract (CSE) on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP) production in nasal fibroblasts and to determine the underlying molecular mechanisms. Primary nasal fibroblasts from six patients were isolated and cultured. After the exposure of fibroblasts to CSE, the expression levels of

Cervical Sympathetic Chain Neurilemmoma with Postoperative Horner Syndrome
Jae‐Gu Cho, Jong-Seok Song, Jeong-Su Woo, Heung‐Man Lee
SJR Q4Korean Journal of Otorhinolaryngology-head and Neck Surgery

Neurilemmoma arising from the cervical sympathetic chain is not common. It is most often manifested as a solitary, benign, and slow-growing mass, and its malignant degeneration is rare. Recently, we experienced a case of schwannoma arising from cervical sympathetic chain. A 43-year-old woman presented a left neck mass that was found incidentally. Measuring approximately 33 cm, the mass was located medial to the left sternocleidomastoid muscle at the level of the carotid bifurcation. Fine needle

Expression of PlGF mRNA was significantly elevated in the epithelium of cholesteatoma compared with normal auditory meatal skin. PlGF was detected on cholesteatoma by Western blotting. PlGF was detected in the suprabasal layer of cholesteatoma using immunohistochemical study, but was not detected in normal auditory meatal skin.

The objective of this paper is to describe long-term complications and their management in contrast to acute measures after endotracheal laser-induced fire. This case pertains to a 56-year-old patient in whom an endotracheal fire occurred during CO 2 laser surgery. Despite local swelling and evidence of acute lung injury, the patient was extubated the following day under single-shot cortisone and inhalation of dispersed adrenaline under assisted spontaneous breathing.
