Professor Jae Hee Cheon's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal immunology and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), with a focus on identifying molecular mechanisms underlying intestinal inflammation. The lab investigates the roles of key immune modulators such as IL-23R, IL-17A, IL-33, and NF-κB signaling in IBD pathogenesis, as well as the therapeutic potential of natural compounds like guggulsterone. It also develops clinical tools such as disease activity indices and diagnostic criteria for rare conditions like intestinal Behçet’s disease, integrating molecular genetics with clinical gastroenterology.

Our large-scale study suggests that retention occurs infrequently during capsule endoscopy. Moreover, a retained capsule might indicate the best intervention for the offending pathology, or it may spontaneously pass in the long run, particularly in patients with less small bowel stricture.
