Professor Jae-Ho Cho's research lab focuses on the intersection of communication, political behavior, and digital media, with a particular emphasis on how algorithmic systems and news media shape public opinion, emotional responses, and political polarization. The lab investigates the effects of recommender systems—especially on platforms like YouTube—on opinion reinforcement and affective polarization, as well as the role of traditional and digital media in shaping cognitive and emotional reactions to major events. A central theme is understanding how media environments, both legacy and social, influence individual and collective political attitudes and behaviors.

This study examines algorithm effects on user opinion, utilizing a real-world recommender algorithm of a highly popular video-sharing platform, YouTube. Our data suggest that radiotherapy to the primary tumor was associated with improved OS and BCFFS in metastatic prostate cancer. The results of this study warrant prospective controlled clinical trials of this approach in stage IV prostate cancer patients with limited extent of bone metastasis and good performance status.
This paper investigates relationships between community characteristics and levels of knowledge and participation examined at both the individual and the community levels. This research extends the knowledge gap concept to a parallel phenomenon, the participation gap. Results from the Social Capital Benchmark Survey 2000 showed that community density, education, and cohesion were significant positive predictors of knowledge but less consistent predictors of participation at the individual level.
