Professor Jae Hwan Lee's research lab specializes in clinical and translational studies focusing on medical imaging, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) diagnosis using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), and the impact of various clinical factors on cancer outcomes. The lab also investigates complications related to vascular access devices in oncology patients, such as peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-associated bloodstream infections, and explores the effects of environmental and biological factors—like UVB radiation and ozone interactions with sampling materials—on human health and clinical testing accuracy. Additionally, the lab examines ophthalmic conditions exacerbated by surgical interventions, such as LASEK in patients with corneal dystrophies.

15A typical enhancement of HCCs on MDCT was not unusual (43.6%) and WD and PD HCCs account for most of the atypical enhancement patterns. Early washout favoured MD and PD HCCs rather than WD HCCs, whereas in our study the presence of intratumoral aneurysm was a highly specific finding for PD HCC.

PURPOSE: The effects of UVB radiation on the proliferation and differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes were investigated with respect to timing, dosage, and repeated exposures. Our results indicated that risk factors associated with PBSI included the number of catheter lumens, the use of PICCs for chemotherapy, and the hospital length of stay. Furthermore, PBSI-related death was common in patients undergoing chemotherapy, diabetics, and elderly patients.
