Professor Jae-jun Kim's research lab focuses on gastrointestinal oncology and microbial pathogenesis, with a particular emphasis on Helicobacter pylori-related gastric carcinogenesis, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, and the role of DNA repair pathways in gastric cancer development. The lab investigates the impact of H. pylori infection on DNA mismatch repair deficiency and microsatellite instability, as well as the clinical implications of antibiotic resistance in treatment outcomes. Additionally, the lab explores efficient colonoscopy preparation regimens and the molecular mechanisms of UV-induced mutagenesis in plant-associated bacteria.

15Endoscopic resection might not be inferior to surgery with respect to OS in patients with EGC lesions that meet the absolute or expanded criteria. However, DFS, RFS, and metachronous RFS might be lower after endoscopic resection than after surgery.
Antibiotic resistance among Helicobacter pylori has been increasing worldwide and has begun to affect the overall efficacy of current antibiotic regimens adversely. We examined 220 pairs of H. pylori isolates obtained from both the antrum and corpus of separate patients; 109 (50%) harbored antibiotic-resistant H. pylori: amoxicillin (0.5%), clarithromycin (5.9%), furazolidone (1.4%), metronidazole (45.5%), nitrofurantoin (1.4%), and tetracycline (6.8%). The split-dose magnesium citrate-low-volume (2 liters) PEG regimen was more efficient than and preferred to the conventional regimen of 4 liters of PEG, and it was equally efficient as, but, again, preferred to the split-dose (2+2 liters) regimen for morning colonoscopy.

The effects of the rulAB operon of Pseudomonas syringae on mutagenic DNA repair and the transcriptional regulation of rulAB following irradiation with UV-B wavelengths were determined. The early detection of gastric cancer (GC) could decrease its incidence and mortality. However, there are currently no accurate noninvasive markers for GC screening.
