Professor Jae Min Lee's research lab specializes in neuroscience and neurodegenerative disorders, focusing on the neuroprotective mechanisms of natural compounds and non-pharmacological interventions such as treadmill exercise. The lab investigates how berberine, exercise, and stem cell therapy modulate apoptosis, neurogenesis, and glial activation in animal models of brain injury, including global ischemia, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, and intracerebral hemorrhage. A central theme is the regulation of key signaling pathways—particularly PI3K/Akt—underlying neuronal survival and cognitive function. The lab also explores the role of acetylcholinesterase and inflammatory markers in memory impairment and depression following brain injury.
