研究室紹介
Professor Jae-woong Choi's research lab specializes in medical imaging and clinical radiology, with a focus on advanced diagnostic techniques such as MRI and MDCT for rare or complex abdominal pathologies. The lab also engages in corpus linguistics and computational language studies, particularly in the analysis of large-scale Korean language corpora for linguistic and sociolinguistic research. Their work bridges clinical medicine and digital humanities, emphasizing the application of imaging technologies in diagnosing rare conditions and the development of linguistic resources for academic and technological innovation.

15The spontaneous defecation of the surgical retained sponge is very rare. Here, we report a case of migrating surgical sponge that was retained in the colon and it was evacuated by defecation.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to describe magnetic resonance imaging findings of newly categorized ovarian seromucinous tumors. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the images of 29 patients with seromucinous tumor for the following factors: size, configuration, signal intensity (SI), and accompanying ovarian endometriosis. RESULTS: Thirty-two tumors (17 benign, 7 borderline, 8 carcinoma) were found on computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. Their mean size was 11.4 cm. Benign
Ectopic stomal varices are an unusual cause of gastrointestinal hemorrhage. The term "ectopic stomal varices" means abnormally dilated veins that have developed in the stomal mucosa. We describe the 2D reformatted and 3D volume rendered images by MDCT in a patient with an episode of acute bleeding from the colonic stoma. This case indicates that the 2D reformatted and 3D volume rendered images are useful to detect this rare complication of portal hypertension, and they help to tailor adequate tr

This paper is a survey of recent trends in the corpus related linguistic studies, adding two specific cases of such research as a way to illustrate how corpora can contribute to the efforts of finding interesting distributional patterns of language. We first start in Section 1 with the question if Corpus Linguistics is popular at all in the first place and some ways to find the answer, suggesting that the ‘Google N-gram viewer’, based on the N-gram data collected from the very large corpus, prov

In this study, we report on a set of experimentations for, and a successful completion of, the automatic topic classification of 3286 English essays (YELC) written by college level English learners in Korea. We adopted Hierarchical Agglomeration Clustering for our purpose. In order to find the best combination of distance measures and algorithms for hierarchical clustering, we first selected 100 essays, and then calculated precision rate on the basis of the subset of essays for each of the 15 co
This study measures the possible influence of the speakers‘ background on their acceptability judgements on Korean sentences. In total 287 pairs of sentences were used as the input sentences for the experiment. 328 Korean speakers participated in the experiment, assigning roughly 120 pairs per subject. Using z-transformation, both parametric and nonparametric tests as well as both ANOVA and multi-factor parametric statistics are applied to the data. The findings indicate that the variable FAMILI
The advent of some practical Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications and the wide availability of Deep Learning algorithms seem to have shaken most aspects of everyday life. In particular the arrival of the vector space modelling based on word embedding, and the availability of the tools like Word2vec signalled the era of high quality word vectors and literally have changed the world of Natural Language Processing. In this paper we discuss the nature of the vector space model as an alternative
In this paper, we propose a statistical method to compare a word classification system with another in terms of their mutual similarity or dependence. In particular we compare two extensive classification systems of Korean adjectives, and the question we address in this paper is if those two systems are similar or dependent to each other or not. In order to verify the similarity or relevance, we make use of the χ2 test and conclude that there is no evidence to reject the null hypothesis that the
Syntax in Japanese and Korean shows "striking similarities" especially when we consider that despite various efforts to find the historical link between the two languages any direct connection still is not well established. Such similarities also pertain in the way two nouns (phrases) are combined to form a larger nominal expression. However, when we take a careful look into the distribution and relative frequency of adnominal constructions with particles '-no' and '-ui', we notice an interestin
