研究室紹介

Professor Jaegyeong Seo's research lab specializes in orthopedic biomaterials and regenerative medicine, with a focus on osteoarthritis (OA) pathogenesis and disease-modifying therapies. The lab investigates novel molecular mechanisms in joint degeneration, particularly the role of osteoclast-associated receptor (OSCAR) in chondrocyte function, and explores repurposed drugs like 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) for OA treatment. Additionally, the lab conducts clinical and biomechanical studies on total knee arthroplasty (TKA), including implant design, surgical outcomes, and long-term survivorship, with an emphasis on patient-centered results and advanced surgical techniques such as navigation-assisted TKA. The lab also engages in health behavior research among older adults, examining the psychological and social determinants of physical activity and long-term exercise adherence.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive and irreversible degenerative joint disease that is characterized by cartilage destruction, osteophyte formation, subchondral bone remodeling, and synovitis. Despite affecting millions of patients, effective and safe disease-modifying osteoarthritis drugs are lacking. Here we reveal an unexpected role for the small molecule 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), which is used as an anti-inflammatory drug in ulcerative colitis. We show that 5-ASA competes with extrace

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery - British Volume

Peri-prosthetic patellar fracture following resurfacing as part of total knee replacement (TKR) is an infrequent yet challenging complication. This case-control study was performed to identify clinical, radiological and surgical factors that increase the risk of developing a spontaneous patellar fracture after TKR. Patellar fractures were identified in 74 patients (88 knees) from a series of 7866 consecutive TKRs conducted between 1998 and 2009. After excluding those with a previous history of e

LONG-TERM CLINICAL PERFORMANCE AND SURVIVORSHIP OF FLOATING PLATFORM MOBILE-BEARING TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY USING NAVIGATION SYSTEM
Young‐Wan Moon, J. G. Seo, S.M. Kim, J.S. Park

Background The purpose of this study is to report the outcome of navigation-assisted cruciate-retaining total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using one type of cemented, second-generation, floating-platform (FP), mobile-bearing system. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 42 patients (51 knees) who underwent cruciate retaining TKAs using e.motion-FP prostheses under navigational guidance. The preoperative diagnosis was osteoarthritis in all knees except one rheumatoid arthritis. There were 2 men (2 knees

LONG-TERM FOLLOW-UP AND SURVIVORSHIP OF SINGLE-RADIUS, POSTERIOR-STABILISED TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY
Young‐Wan Moon, J.S. Park, J. G. Seo, Min-Su Jang, S.H. Kim
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-british Volume

Introduction We sought to determine the 10-year survivorship of single-radius, posterior-stabilized total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in Asian patients. We also aimed to determine whether the long-term clinical and radiographic results differed between patients with and without patellar resurfacing. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 148 (115 patients) consecutive single-radius, posterior-stabilized TKAs. Ten-year survivorship analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method

Advanced Panel Level Fan-out Package: Development of a Damascene Integration Scheme for Cu Redistribution Layers
Eungchul Kim, Suhyeon Jeon, J. G. Seo, Takuya Nakagawa, Yuta Kimura, Dongjoon Oh, Juil Choi, Minwoo Rhee

The surge of high-performance computing and AI has driven demand for advanced packaging such as chiplet-to-HBM integration, pushing the industry toward fan-out panel-level packaging (FOPLP). To meet the sub-2 µm fine-pitch RDL requirements of next-generation heterogeneous systems, the semi-additive process (SAP) suffers from diffusion-barrier loss, weak Ti adhesion, and Cu undulation. This work presents a semi-etch process (SEP) that combines lithography, anisotropic dry etching, Ti/Cu barrier f

RECONSTRUCTION OF A DEFICIENT PATELLA IN REVISION TOTAL KNEE ARTHROPLASTY - RESULTS OF A NEW BONE-AUGMENTING TECHNIQUE USING TRANSCORTICAL WIRING -
S.M. Kim, Young Sook Park, Young‐Wan Moon, J. G. Seo
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-british Volume

Background Management of the patella with poor bone stock remains a challenge in revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of a novel surgical technique in which widely available wires and acrylic bone cement are used in the reconstruction of a deficient patella. Methods Twenty-eight patients (30 knees) underwent revision TKA in which a deficient patella was treated with an onlay-type prosthesis and bone-augmenting procedure, using transcortica
