研究室紹介
Professor Jee Yoon Park's research lab specializes in maternal-fetal medicine and reproductive health, with a focus on understanding the biological mechanisms underlying preterm birth, intra-amniotic inflammation, and fetal microbial colonization. The lab investigates biomarkers such as PGF2α and progesterone in pregnancy complications, explores microbiome dynamics in mother-neonate pairs, and pioneers in vitro models like organ-on-a-chip systems to simulate human pregnancy for drug testing and disease modeling. Their work bridges clinical obstetrics with cutting-edge bioengineering and microbiome science to improve perinatal outcomes.

15The concentration of PGF2α was elevated in the amniotic fluid of 40.2% of patients with preterm labor and intact membranes and is an independent risk factor for intra-amniotic inflammation/infection, impending preterm delivery, chorioamnionitis, and funisitis.
Objectives To compare pregnancy outcomes of physical examination-indicated cerclage in twin pregnancies with acute cervical insufficiency with that of singletons. Methods This retrospective cohort study included 88 consecutive women (17 twins and 71 singletons) who had undergone physical examination-indicated cerclage because of acute cervical insufficiency (defined as painless cervical dilation with (1) prolapsed and/or visible membranes at the external cervical os on speculum examination and (
In this study, we aimed to comprehensively characterize the microbiomes of various samples from pregnant women and their neonates, and to explore the similarities and associations between mother-neonate pairs, sample collection sites, and obstetrical factors. We collected samples from vaginal discharge and amniotic fluid in pregnant women and umbilical cord blood, gastric liquid, and meconium from neonates. We identified 19,597,239 bacterial sequences from 641 samples of 141 pregnant women and 1
The use of vaginal progesterone was associated with lower rates of preterm birth before 34 and 37 weeks of gestation in women who underwent ultrasound-indicated cerclage placement.
During the last decade, organs-on-chips or organoids microphysiological analysis platforms (MAP) have garnered attention in the practical applications of disease models, drug discovery, and developmental biology. Research on pregnant women has firm limitations due to ethical issues; thus, remodelling human pregnancy in vitro is highly beneficial for treatment modality development via disease remodelling or drug monitoring. This review highlights current efforts in bioengineering devices to repro
Pyoderma gangrenosum is an extremely rare chronic cutaneous disease causing severe ulceration. It can be developed after minor trauma or surgical procedure. The typical features mimic acute infection site, however the treatment methods are opposing since pyoderma gangrenosum is improved with the use of corticosteroids, not antibiotic therapy. We here report a patient who had been diagnosed for acute infection after cesarean delivery in 2011 and treated with a number of antibiotics, but failed to
BACKGROUND: Maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) has been reported to be associated with the postpartum mother-infant relationship. Seeing the fetus through ultrasound might influence MFA, and the effect could be increased by more realistic images, such as those generated in virtual reality (VR). OBJECTIVE: The aim was to determine the effect of fetal images generated in VR on MFA and depressive symptoms through a prenatal-coaching mobile app. METHODS: This 2-arm parallel randomized controlled trial
Repetitive cesarean section may be a risk factor for future development of anemia in later life, especially in perimenopausal period. Therefore, evaluation and management of anemia in longer postpartum period should be considered for women who experience repetitive cesarean section.
Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that can lead to stillbirth and preterm birth if not treated promptly. Currently, the diagnosis of preeclampsia relies on clinical symptoms such as hypertension and proteinuria, along with invasive blood tests. Here, we investigate the role of soluble proteins and exosomes in noninvasive diagnosing preeclampsia non-invasively using maternal urine and urine-derived exosomes. We quantified the levels of particles and the presence of TSG101 and C
Women with underweight before pregnancy are at the highest risk for preterm birth and SGA, therefore they need to be monitored more intensively when diagnosed as preeclampsia.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effect of maternal age to the cesarean section rate of twin pregnancies in late preterm and term gestation. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on twin pregnancies delivered at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from June 2003 to December 2020. Preterm births before 34 weeks of gestation were excluded, and only live births were analyzed. The patients were classified into four groups according to maternal age (<30, 30-34, 35-39, and ≥40 years). The pri
