Professor Jeon Jeongyoon's research lab specializes in indoor environmental quality, with a focus on thermal comfort, indoor air quality, and human-bldg interaction in residential settings. The lab investigates occupant behavior, physiological responses (e.g., attention and EEG patterns), and the impact of environmental conditions such as temperature and air pollutants on health and well-being. Research spans seasonal variations, energy-efficient building systems (e.g., floor heating and air conditioning), and the integration of eco-friendly materials and multimedia education in improving indoor environments and environmental literacy. The lab combines field measurements, controlled experiments, and behavioral surveys to develop human-centered, sustainable indoor environments.

15This study measured the thermal environment and residents' control behaviors of a thermostat in the apartments' living rooms which used the floor heating system in winter in Seoul. The purpose of this study is to find out the present thermal environment of the living rooms and the problems of present heating systems and control methods and to suggest the devices for the improvement of human interface. The surveys and measurements took place in twelve apartments of Seoul for a week in February, 2
The purpose of this study is to verify the differences in occupants' attention depending on indoor air temperature and to examine the time variance. The experiment was conducted from March 21 to April 17, 2011 in the artificial climate chamber with the air temperature controlled as 24.0℃ or 20.5℃. Subjects were 32 healthy males aged from 21 to 29 without medical history of neuropsychiatric disorder. Those subjects took the test on continuous performance(CPT) and academic performance while their
For the purpose of examining about seasonal change in concentration of indoor organic compounds in Seoul, 96 houses in the winter and 49 houses in the summer were investigated. Indoor organic compounds concentration were measured and survey was performed by questionnaire. Indoor organic compounds were monitored with two diffusive samplers. One was a cartridge treated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine for aldehydes sampling. The other was a passive charcoal tube for VOCs sampling. Two samplers were
Nowadays environmental education and advertising program using various IT technology have been produced much, but their effects were not proved on spot yet. In this study, environmental education, which can be interesting to elementary students and has high learning effects, was applied to on spot. This multi-media learning program consisted of themes such as ‘nature ecology’, ‘forest story’, ‘letters from zoo’, ‘denizen’, ‘foreshore’, ‘salamander story’ and was developed using animation and tex
The aim of this study is to analyse the eco-friendly interior finishing materials that have been used since the Indoor Air Regulation were in force, to find out the interior designers' requirements of current eco-friendly interior finishing materials through the survey, and to investigate the current development status of eco-friendly interior finishing materials and obstacles in applying those materials to apartments through the in-depth interview. An analysis on the interior finishing material
In this study, indoor thermal environment, resident behavior of operating cooling device, and thermal comfort vote are investigated at the living room of apartment during summertime in Seoul. Based on the results of the investigation, indoor air temperatures that residents turn air conditioners (especially for cooling load in this research) on and off were found out. The relationships between outdoor weather condition and the number of days using air conditioner, and whether operating patterns o
The purpose of this research is to investigate how the indoor temperature has influence on occupants' attention abilities as a basis of productivity. To achieve the purpose, the experiment in climate chamber was conducted. In the experiment, temperature was controlled according to two levels (20 degree C or 23 degree C) and other factors were controlled uniformly. All of subjects were exposed to those two different thermal conditions. Each participant was asked to mark their answers on the state
Measurements on indoor organic compounds air pollution level in 96 houses were conducted. Houses which measurement carried out were collected based on the survey results about house type and constructed year in Seoul city. Indoor air organic compounds were monitored with two diffusive samplers. One was a cartridge treated with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine for aldehydes sampling. The other was a passive charcoal tube for VOCs sampling. Two samplers were simultaneously exposed in living room during
The purpose of this study is to examine the sleep environment, sleep quality and to reveal the relationship between sleep environment and obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome. The subjects of this study are twenty four women who live in an apartment in Seoul. We conducted pre-sleep questionnaire and post-sleep questionnaire. We measured equivalent noise level, illumination, air temperature, relative humidity, MRT, CO2 concentration, and AHI of each subject in their bedrooms. In case of both
The purpose of this study is to analyze relationship between the level of maintenance management service and occupant satisfaction in office buildings. In order to ensure whether the level of maintenance management service corresponds with occupant satisfaction to indoor environment quality(IEQ), we evaluated maintenance management service through surveys of managers and investigated occupant satisfaction by the questionnaire in seven office buildings. Based on this research, it is found that wh
This study examines effects of each indoor environment element and its interaction on occupants' stress and anxiety. The experiment on the study was conducted at the chamber. Thermal, air, and acoustic environments, selected as environmental components for the combined environment, were controlled by each factor's level and composed of the combined environment. Total 12 combined environments could be established according to three main facts and the levels caused by their differentiated conditio
This study measured the thermal environment and residents' control behaviors of cooing according to 3 groups of household type-families with preschool children, families of middle age and families of senior. The object of this study are to find the difference of the actual condition of indoor thermal environment and cooling control behavior by age or household type and to develop user oriented climate control system. The results were summarized as follows. When the age of members at household is
Much energy is used in occupying stage of the Building Life Cycle. Electric charge is one of the various factors that influence on energy use of residents. This study focused on electric charge and searched that whether electric charge affects residents’ behavior of operating air conditioner and their controlled indoor climate. We surveyed three groups for field study;A group is residents who live in a studio apartment, B group is residents who live in a university dormitory and C group is resid
This study aims to research about commercial PC Room's actual condition of smoking/non smoking area management after the application of new National Health Promotion law. National Health Promotion Law extended its' subjects including PC Room because of critical health effects of smoking. 25 PC Rooms in Shinchon area were investigated. Results are as follows. 1. Only three stores participated smoking/non-smoking area by full partition. 64% of stores just divided two area without any partition. 2.
This study investigates the electroencephalogram(EEG) associated with thermal displeasure with a sudden temperature increase. 18 males and 17 females participated in chamber experiment. They stayed in comfortable environment for 30 minutes and moved to uncomfortable environment then stayed for 20 minutes. They answered thermal sensation vote and thermal comfort vote during experiments. Their brainwave were measured for 50 minutes. As results of the experiment, the relative theta power was decrea
