研究室紹介
Professor Jeon Seung-hyun's research lab specializes in urological oncology and minimally invasive surgical techniques, with a strong focus on renal and bladder cancers. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression, particularly the role of antioxidant enzymes in bladder cancer, and explores innovative surgical approaches such as the use of V-Loc sutures in partial nephrectomy to reduce ischemia time. Additionally, the lab examines therapeutic strategies, including adjuvant immunotherapy in renal cell carcinoma, and evaluates long-term renal function outcomes in both kidney donors and cancer patients. Their work bridges clinical urology, molecular pathology, and surgical innovation to improve patient outcomes in genitourinary malignancies.

15Korean ginseng and mountain ginseng (Panax ginseng CA Meyer) are important traditional herbal plants whose ginsenosides are generally accepted as serving to improve sexual functions, such as penile erection. We investigated the effects of tissue-cultured mountain ginseng extract (TMGE) on male patients with erectile dysfunction (ED). A double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted with 143 patients experiencing ED. Over the course of 8 weeks, one group took 1 000 mg of TMGE twice a day, a
Study Type – Therapy (case series) Level of Evidence 4 What’s known on the subject? and What does the study add? While laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (LRN) has been confirmed in various studies to be at least as efficacious as open radical nephrectomy (ORN) in terms of oncological control and more advantageous from the perspective of minimal invasiveness, very few studies have examined its feasibility and efficacy when applied to renal masses exceeding 7 cm in size, and even fewer involved res
The use of V-Loc sutures for renorrhaphy during LPN is safe and feasible and, in our series, significantly reduces WIT. Further studies are needed to corroborate these findings, but these results indicate a promising development in reducing WIT during minimally invasive partial nephrectomy.
Purpose: Intrinsic antioxidant enzymes (AOE) are essential for protection against potential cellular damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS), which affect many biological processes including carcinogenesis. The aim of the present study was to characterize the expression of antioxidant enzymes in human bladder cancer tissue and to evaluate the relationship with histopathological characteristics. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemical stainingfor catalase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and gluta
Five-year overall survival after radical nephrectomy in pT3N0M0 renal cell carcinoma is 35-50%. In light of immunotherapy, which has shown some activity in advanced diseases with increasing efficacy in limited metastatic invasion, we decided to explore the theoretical advantage of adjuvant immunotherapy in radically resected stage pT3N0M0 renal cell carcinoma. We studied several factors including tumor size, nuclear grade, mean nuclear area and expression of p53 protein to find out which factor
OBJECTIVES: To compare post-nephrectomy renal function between kidney donors and renal cell carcinoma patients, to evaluate trends in recovery, and to identify factors relevant to renal failure. METHODS: Patients who had radical or donor nephrectomy from four different institutions between 2003 and 2012 were reviewed. Propensity score matching was carried out and 79 patients were selected for each group. The estimated glomerular filtration rate was calculated using the Modification of Diet in Re
Our results suggest that 15 cases are needed for a novice surgeon to achieve competence in LRN. Surgical outcomes and morbidity can be improved once this learning curve has been overcome.
The prevalence of voiding dysfunction was 47.4% by the question of "do you usually experience a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying" from Korean version of PFDI (pelvic floor distress inventory), 33.7% by the value of less than 10th centile of peak flow rate of uroflowmetry by Liverpool nomogram, 20.2% by the cutoff values of less than 12 ml per second of maximum flow rate and greater than 25 cmH20 of detrusor pressure at maximum flow rate in the pressure flow study and 11.6% by the elevated
BACKGROUND: Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy(RARP) is widely used to surgically treat of localized prostate cancer. Among RARP, retzius-sparing techniques(RS-RARP) are implemented through douglas pouch, not the existing conventional approach(C-RARP). We conducted an updated systematic review and meta-analysis including recent published papers. MATERIALS & METHODS: Systematic review was performed following the PRISMA guideline. PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched up to August
Miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for renal stones have been developed to overcome the invasive disadvantages of PCNL. We aimed to compare the therapeutic effect and safety of ultra-mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (UMPCNL) and RIRS for renal stones using an updated systematic review and meta-analysis. We searched clinical trials comparing UMPCNL and RIRS for renal stones using the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar datab
An isolated unilocular renal hydatid cyst is very rare and to the best of our knowledge, no such case has been reported in the Korean literature. A 56 year old woman, who liked eating raw vegetables fertilized by dog feces, visited our department because of an incidentally found renal cyst. Ultrasonography and the computed tomography (CT) scan showed a ty-pical daughter cyst within the 6cm sized mother cyst. We performed retroperitoneal laparoscopic cyst marsupilaization after aspiration of the
PURPOSE: We investigated the effects of radical cystectomy and the prognostic factors that affect the survival of bladder cancer patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From 1979 to 2002, 59 patients with long-term follow up results of at least 2 years were enrolled in this study. Indications for surgery included muscle invasive bladder cancer and high-risk superficial bladder cancer. The cancer specific and recurrence free survival rates with respect to the possible prognostic factors were determined
