15Purpose: To assess efficacy of the Pentacam (PTC) and the anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AOCT) for detection of occludable angles. Materials and Methods: Fourty-one eyes with gonioscopically diagnosed occludable angles and 32 normal open-angle eyes were included. Anterior chamber angle (ACA) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) were measured with PTC and AOCT. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed for each parameter and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was c
With the advent of open standards for interactive TV, various interactive data services are enabled to run transparently across vendor-specific hardware platforms. With careful modular design and interfaces, a considerable amount of middleware components can be reused without or with minor modifications. In this paper, a general architecture of the middleware and its few key components for DTV receivers are introduced.
Korea and Japan hosted the FIFA World Cup Soccer Game in 2002. Ten stadiums were built and more than 30 soccer grounds for practice were renovated in Korea. Sport fields in both countries have problems on cool-season turfgrass growth and quality by summer decline during humid and warm climate especially followed by intensive uses. We measured the effects of air-flow system, which is designed to optimize rootzone soil gas and moisture levels to promote the growth and maintenance turfgrass. This e
Heparin is a well-known anticoagulant widely used in various clinical settings. Interestingly, recent studies have indicated that heparin also has anti-inflammatory effects on neuroinflammation-related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and meningitis. However, the underlying mechanism of its actions remains unclear. In the present study, we examined the anti-inflammatory mechanism of heparin in cultured cerebral endothelial cells (CECs), and found that heparin inhibited the tumor necrosis fa
Abstract I estimate a matching model of business‐partnership formation to quantify the relative importance of productivity gains, financing gains, and the coordination failure of effort provision (moral hazard) among partners. Productivity gains account for 61% of the gain from the observed partnerships. For partners in the first quartile of the wealth distribution, however, financing accounts for 93% of the gain. The cost of moral hazard corresponds to 42% of the entire gain from partnerships.
Background/Aims Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the esophagus. Similar to asthma, EoE can induce irreversible structural changes in the esophagus as a result of chronic and persistent eosinophilic inflammation. The aim of this study was to analyse changes in symptoms, eosinophil counts and endoscopic findings after treatment. Methods Nine patients with EoE (6 men and 3 women; mean age, 36.44 years) were diagnosed with EoE based on typical symptoms, endoscopic
The tubby mouse is characterized by progressive retinal and cochlear degeneration and late-onset obesity. These phenotypes are caused by a loss-of-function mutation in the tub gene and are shared with several human syndromes, suggesting the importance of tubby protein in central nervous system (CNS) functioning. Although evidence suggests that tubby may act as a transcription factor mediating G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, any downstream gene regulated by tubby has yet to be identi
The growth of root and shoot normally decline dramatically in mid-summer of Korea, moreover the cool-season turfgrassgrass eventually wither to death over 30oC. The increase of air temperature also drives the heat of soil, that makes stress on root system. The heat stress affects physiological mechanisms of hormonal unbalance that stimulates shoot growth, photosynthesis, and transpiration. To solve those problems, many studies have been carried out to control soil moisture and OM content to decr
We document a drastic increase in female-owned manufacturing firms in South Korea after the 1997 financial crisis. During the crisis, a major banking-sector reform was conducted, and many underperforming bank branches were forced to close down. Using a geographical variation of bank-branch closures during the reform, we show that the banking-sector reform resulted in a rise in female entrepreneurship. We present evidence that the closed-down bank branches preferred male-owned firms, despite fema
Singapore has completed its catch-up growth phase and needs to find a new growth engine. Entrepreneurship can contribute to a nation’s productivity growth. The purpose of this chapter is twofold. First, a theoretical framework is presented, along with empirical evidence, to understand government interventions aimed at boosting entrepreneurship. Second, using the framework, the chapter discusses whether Singapore’s current policies are suitable for helping entrepreneurship. The theory demonstrate
