研究室紹介

Professor Jeong-hoon Choi's research lab specializes in pharmacogenomics and translational medicine, focusing on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying drug response and cancer biomarkers. The lab investigates solute carrier (SLC) transporters—particularly MATE2-K—in drug disposition and pharmacokinetics, with a strong emphasis on personalized medicine applications for drugs like metformin. Additionally, the lab explores serum biomarkers such as alpha-fetoprotein in gastric cancer to improve early detection and prognosis prediction. Their work integrates molecular biology, population genetics, and structural bioinformatics to bridge basic research with clinical applications.

Multidrug and toxin extrusion 2 (MATE2-K (SLC47A2)), a polyspecific organic cation exporter, facilitates the renal elimination of the antidiabetes drug metformin. In this study, we characterized genetic variants of MATE2-K, determined their association with metformin response, and elucidated their impact by means of a comparative protein structure model. Four nonsynonymous variants and four variants in the MATE2-K basal promoter region were identified from ethnically diverse populations. Two non

We measured the sero-positivity rate of serum alpha-fetoprotein (alphaFP) of gastric cancer patients by ELISA assay; forty-two curatively resected patients, 14 palliatively resected patients, 8 who received explo-laparotomy or bypass surgery and 18 patients with systemic metastasis. The sero-positive rate was 9.8% (8/82) and the positivity increased with cancer progression. Sex, age and pathological type were similar between alphaFP-positive and -negative patients. The overall synchronous hepati
