研究室紹介
Professor Jeong-hyun Tae's research lab focuses on gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colorectal cancer and Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), with an emphasis on molecular mechanisms underlying carcinogenesis and treatment resistance. The lab investigates epigenetic alterations such as promoter methylation of genes like ADHFE1 and the role of metabolic regulators like adiponectin and its receptors in the normal-adenoma-carcinoma sequence. Additionally, the lab contributes to clinical guidelines, such as those for percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), reflecting its translational approach to digestive health in aging populations.

15Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a common causative agent of pseudomembranous colitis (PMC). C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) ranges from mild diarrhea to life threatening PMC. Recently, a highly virulent strain of C. difficile polymerase chain reaction ribotype 027 was found in North America, Europe, and Japan. A 52-yr-old woman with anti-tuberculosis medication and neurogenic bladder due to traffic accident experienced five episodes of C. difficile PMC after taking antibiotics fo
Younger age, longer intervals between outpatient clinic visits, and limited knowledge of the prescribed medication tended to be associated with nonadherence to treatment, which consequently also affects the risk of relapse.
BACKGROUND: Although altered levels of adiponectin have been reported as a potential risk factor in colorectal cancer (CRC), the importance of the role played by adiponectin in colorectal carcinogenesis has not been established. We sought to examine the expression pattern of adiponectin and adiponectin receptors (AdipoRs) in the normal-adenoma-carcinoma sequence and to assess the implications of adiponectin in colorectal carcinogenesis. METHODS: Serum adiponectin concentrations, and the mRNA and

BACKGROUND: The aberrant methylation of CpG islands in the promoter is associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) carcinogenesis. In our previous study, the promoter of alcohol dehydrogenase, iron containing, 1 (ADHFE1) was most highly methylated in CRC compared to normal colorectal mucosa. In this study, we examined the expression and function of the ADHFE1 in CRC. METHODS: We examined the promoter methylation and mRNA expression of ADHFE1 with 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-Aza-2-dC) in 12 CRC cell li
With an aging population, the number of patients with difficulty in swallowing due to medical conditions is gradually increasing. In such cases, enteral nutrition is administered through a temporary nasogastric tube. However, the long-term use of a nasogastric tube leads to various complications and a decreased quality of life. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is the percutaneous placement of a tube into the stomach that is aided endoscopically and may be an alternative to a nasogastric
Quality of life (QoL) has become an important issue after early gastric cancer (EGC) treatment. We aimed to compare the QoL of EGC survivors after ESD (n = 241) or laparoscopic subtotal gastrectomy (n = 241) without recurrence and to evaluate the QoL over the 5-year period after adjusting for various confounding factors related to QoL. QoL related to the gastric cancer subscale (GCS) was significantly higher in the ESD group than surgery group (p < 0.001). After adjusting for all possible confou

Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) refers to gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding of unclear origin that persists or recurs after negative findings on esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy. OGIB accounts for approximately 5% of all types of GI bleeding. More than 80% of OGIB cases originate in the small bowel. The ability to detect OGIB in the small bowel has significantly advanced and been revolutionized since the introduction of the capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy techniq
Low-volume PEG containing ascorbic acid had comparable efficacy and tolerability to 2 L of PEG plus bisacodyl, when given as a split dose, for colonoscopy in inpatients. Split-dose low-volume PEG containing ascorbic acid is a good alternative for bowel preparation for colonoscopy in inpatients.
Mosapride CR and nortriptyline showed similar efficacy in patients with FD regardless of the subtype. Both treatments could be equally helpful for improving quality of life and psychological well-being while also relieving dyspepsia.
Incidental findings on PET/CT were common. Although the incidental findings were suspicious of malignancy, most were benign with high costs for additional investigations.
We conclude that downregulation of CaSR may contribute to the prevention or suppression of tumor outgrowth.
