Professor Jeong Pil-wook's research lab specializes in cerebrovascular diseases, with a focus on intracerebral hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, and cerebral small vessel disease. The lab investigates hemodynamic factors such as blood pressure variability, neuroimaging markers like white matter hyperintensities and cerebral microbleeds, and metabolic influences including vitamin D and calcification in intracranial arteries. A key emphasis is placed on understanding sex differences and clinical predictors of treatment adherence, particularly in Asian populations.

Although statins are established therapy for the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke, factors associated with adherence to statin treatment following ischemic stroke are not well known. To address this, we assessed the 6-month statin adherence using 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Theses results suggest that increased serum cTnT level at admission is associated with in-hospital mortality and the addition of a serum cTnT assay to routine admission testing should be considered in patients with ICH.

Ocular motor apraxia has been reported in bilateral frontoparietal lesions. We report a case of ocular motor apraxia after bilateral striatal infarctions. The patient had impaired voluntary saccades and smooth pursuits in the vertical and horizontal planes with an intact vestibulo-ocular reflex.
