研究室紹介

Professor Jeongseung Kim's research lab focuses on interdisciplinary health and economic impact studies, particularly in aging populations and regional development. The lab investigates metabolic health in metabolically obese normal-weight individuals, emphasizing the role of low muscle mass in cardiovascular risk, while also analyzing the socioeconomic implications of international trade agreements—such as the Korea-US FTA—on regional industries, especially agriculture in Gyeonggi Province. The lab integrates clinical diagnostics, such as transesophageal echocardiography, with economic modeling to assess rare but critical medical events like venous and paradoxical air embolism. These diverse research directions reflect a strong commitment to improving health outcomes and regional economic resilience through data-driven, multidisciplinary approaches.

Relationship between Low Muscle Mass and Metabolic Syndrome in Elderly People with Normal Body Mass Index

http://www.e-jbm.org/

Background: Metabolically obese normal weight (Wt) occurs in people who have high prevalence of cardiovascular disease even with normal body mass index (BMI). In this study, we determined the relationship between low muscle mass and metabolic syndrome which is known to be associated with cardiovascular disease in aged people with normal BMI. Methods: This study used the data of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Aged people (≥ 65 years) with normal BMI (18.5 to 22.9 kg/m2 )

In this paper, following Richardson et al., we suggested a regional economic impact model combining regional input-output model with a spatial allocation model based on a Garin-Lowry type spatial interaction model. We applied this model to the estimation of the economic impacts of Korea-US FTA on the agricultural sector and inter-industrial ripple effects in GyeongGi-Do. In particular, we estimated the economic impacts for 31 sub-regions in GyeongGi-Do by 15 industrial sectors. We found that the

Prolonged paradoxical air embolism during intraoperative intestinal endoscopy confirmed by transesophageal echocardiography -A case report-

Venous air embolism (VAE) during intestinal endoscopy is a rare complication. We report a case of cardiovascular collapse due to VAE confirmed by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) during intraoperative intestinal endoscopy. TEE detected air bubbles in the left ventricle up to 1 hour after the event. When a patient deteriorates during endoscopic procedures, VAE and possible paradoxical air embolism (PAE) should be suspected. This case demonstrates that TEE can play an important role in diagn
