Professor Ji Hyung Kim's research lab focuses on the immunological functions and regulatory mechanisms of innate-like T cells, particularly invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells, in immune homeostasis and disease. The lab investigates how iNKT cells modulate inflammatory responses in conditions such as graft-versus-host disease, acute lung injury, and cancer through interactions with antigen-presenting cells and signaling pathways like Wnt/β-catenin and Notch. A central theme is the metabolic reprogramming of immune cells, especially macrophages and iNKT cells, and how redox regulation and metabolic shifts influence their inflammatory functions. The lab also explores natural compounds as potential immunomodulators, particularly in targeting transcription factors such as LEF1 in melanoma.
