研究室紹介
Professor Jieun Kim's research lab specializes in clinical anesthesiology and translational neuroscience, focusing on optimizing perioperative care through innovative pharmacological and physiological interventions. The lab investigates adjuvant anesthetics like dexmedetomidine and low-dose local anesthetics to enhance spinal anesthesia efficacy and patient recovery, particularly in elderly populations. It also explores neurocognitive mechanisms underlying time perception using rodent models, emphasizing the role of the medial prefrontal cortex. Additionally, the lab contributes to surgical critical care by evaluating strategies to reduce biotrauma and protect organ function during minimally invasive and robotic surgeries.

15Low-dose bupivacaine can limit the spinal block level with minimal hemodynamic effects and yield a rapid recovery, but sometimes it may not provide adequate anesthesia for surgery. Dexmedetomidine, a selective α2-adrenoreceptor agonist, was shown to be a potent antinociceptive agent when given intrathecally in animals and humans. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the adjuvant effects of intrathecal dexmedetomidine in elderly patients undergoing transurethral prostate surgery with low-dos
Several lines of evidence suggest the involvement of prefrontal cortex in time interval estimation. The underlying neural processes are poorly understood, however, in part because of the paucity of physiological studies. The goal of this study was to establish an interval timing task for physiological recordings in rats, and test the requirement of intact medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) for performing the task. We established a temporal bisection procedure using six different time intervals rang
BACKGROUND: This prospective, randomised, controlled study was performed to evaluate the usefulness of the McGrath VL compared with Macintosh laryngoscopy in children with expected normal airway during endotracheal intubation, by comparing the time to intubation and difficulty of intubation. METHODS: Eighty-four patients aged 1-10 years who underwent endotracheal intubation for elective surgery were randomly assigned to the McGrath group (n = 42) or the Macintosh group (n = 42). Anaesthesia was
The oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) is operated at high temperatures and is a highly exothermic reaction; thus, hotspots form on the catalyst surface during reaction unless the produced heat is removed. It is crucial to control the heat formed because surface hotspots can degrade catalytic performance. Herein, we report the preparation of Mn2O3-Na2WO4/SiC catalysts using SiC, which has high thermal conductivity and good stability at high temperatures, and the catalyst was applied to the OCM.
Abstract We hypothesized that deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) with low-pressure pneumoperitoneum (PP) would improve respiratory mechanics and reduce biotrauma compared to moderate NMB with high-pressure PP in a steep Trendelenburg position. Seventy-four women undergoing robotic gynecologic surgery were randomly assigned to two equal groups. Moderate NMB group was maintained with a train of four count of 1–2 and PP at 12 mmHg. Deep NMB group was maintained with a post-tetanic count of 1–2 and P
We evaluated postoperative renal function in patients with/without combined therapy of ketorolac and remote ischemic preconditioning during partial nephrectomy. Sixteen patients were randomly allocated to either the ketorolac combined with RIPC group (KI, n = 8) or control group (n = 8). The KI group received both remote ischemic preconditioning before surgery and intravenous ketorolac of 1 mg/kg before renal artery clamping. Renal parameters were measured before induction, after anesthesia indu
Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) syndrome is a rare disease, often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed in children. We describe the case of a 12-year-old boy who presented to Severance Hospital with a 1-month history of bilateral conjunctival injection. He was first evaluated by an Ophthalmologist in another hospital and diagnosed with panuveitis. Laboratory tests indicated renal failure, and a renal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of acute tubulointerstitial nephritis. An extensive exc
Peripheral regulatory T cells (pTregs) are a highly immunosuppressive fraction of CD4+ T cells. We aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of pTregs in patients with gastric cancer and to determine the correlation between pTregs and immune cell infiltration in tumor microenvironment. pTregs status was determined by assessing the pTreg/total T-cell ratio (ratio of Foxp3 Treg-specific demethylated region (TSDR) to CD3G/CD3D demethylation, so-called Cellular Ratio of Immune Tolerance "ImmunoCRI
Clostridium difficile is a significant nosocomial and community-acquired pathogen, and is the leading cause of antibiotic-induced diarrhea associated with high morbidity and mortality. Given that the treatment outcome depends on the severity of C. difficile infection (CDI), we aimed to establish an efficient method of assessing severity, and focused on the stool biomarker fecal calprotectin (FC). FC directly reflects the intestinal inflammation status of a patient, and can aid in interpreting th
