研究室紹介

Professor Jin Hwa Hong's research lab specializes in translational oncology, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying gynecological cancers, particularly cervical and ovarian cancer. The lab investigates key biomarkers such as TWIST1, adiponectin, and HOX genes to elucidate their roles in tumor progression, angiogenesis, and immune evasion. Using advanced imaging techniques like ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT and molecular biology approaches including siRNA knockdown and cytokine array analysis, the lab aims to identify novel therapeutic targets and improve prognostic prediction in gynecologic malignancies.

This is an observational study to determine the most relevant parameter of ¹⁸F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for predicting recurrence in cervical cancer. Fifty-six patients with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IIB-IVA cervical cancer who underwent pretreatment ¹⁸F-FDG PET/CT were enrolled. PET parameters including maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glyc

OBJECTIVES: Adiponectin is a cytokine secreted from adipose tissue that regulates energy homeostasis, inflammation, and cell proliferation. Obesity is associated with increased risk of various cancers, including ovarian cancer. Adipokines, including adiponectin, have been implicated as a factor linking obesity and carcinogenesis. The oncogenic role of adiponectin is not known with regard to various cancer types. We sought to determine the role of adiponectin in angiogenesis in ovarian cancer in

Expression pattern of the class I homeobox genes in ovarian carcinoma

SJR Q1Journal of Gynecologic OncologyOA

OBJECTIVE: Although some sporadic reports reveal the link between the homeobox (HOX) genes and ovarian carcinoma, there is no comprehensive analysis of the expression pattern of the class I homeobox genes in ovarian carcinoma that determines the candidate genes involved in ovarian carcinogenesis. METHODS: The different patterns of expression of 36 HOX genes were analyzed, including 4 ovarian cancer cell lines and 4 normal ovarian tissues. Using a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (

SJR Q3Tumor BiologyOA

To investigate the role of TWIST1 in tumor angiogenesis in epithelial ovarian cancer and to identify key molecules involved in angiogenesis. TWIST1 small interfering RNA was transfected into A2780 cells, while a complementary DNA vector was transfected into non-malignant human ovarian surface epithelial cells to generate a TWIST1-overexpressing cell line. To evaluate how this affects angiogenesis, human umbilical vein endothelial cell tube formation assays were performed using the control and tr

In patients with MSS EC harboring PD-L1, LAG-3 may be a potential immunotherapeutic target. Clinical trials investigating the role of anti-LAG-3 antibodies, alone or in combination with other immunotherapies, are warranted.

SJR Q2Journal of obstetrics and gynaecology research

AIM: This study was performed to assess the feasibility and efficacy of laparoscopic management for patients with large ovarian tumors. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed of the medical records of 52 women who underwent laparoscopic surgery for large ovarian tumors whose maximum diameter was ≥15cm and a low possibility of malignancy. RESULTS: The median age of patients was 35years (range 18-84), median body mass index was 22.4kg/m(2) (range 12.4-31.5) and 18 patients ha

Long-term effect of pregnancy-related factors on the development of endometrial neoplasia: A nationwide retrospective cohort study

This study showed that six pregnancy-related factors-advanced maternal age, multiparity, multifetal pregnancy, cesarean section, delivery of a large-for-gestational-age infant, and preeclampsia-are positively correlated with future development of endometrial neoplasia, including endometrial hyperplasia or cancer. Close observation and surveillance are warranted to enable early diagnosis of endometrial diseases, including endometrial cancer after pregnancy in high-risk women. However, due to unav

Leiomyosarcoma of the rectum mimicking primary ovarian carcinoma: a case report

SJR Q1Journal of Ovarian ResearchOA

Leiomyosarcoma of the rectum is a very rare mesenchymal tumor. Because of its rarity, its diagnosis, treatment, and pathology often present challenges to the clinician. The characteristics of this tumor, such as its anatomical location, heterogeneous solid features on imaging, and nonspecific lower gastrointestinal tract symptoms, can be confused with those of primary ovarian carcinoma. Here, we report the case of a 52-year-old-woman presenting with a low abdominal mass that was later pathologic
