Professor Jinhyung Chon's research lab focuses on sustainable urban and coastal landscape planning, with an emphasis on integrating ecological infrastructure, ecosystem services, and traditional ecological knowledge into resilient urban design. The lab investigates how greenways, urban green spaces, and community-based ecotourism systems can be optimized to enhance human well-being, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience. Key research directions include the perception-based design of urban green spaces, adaptive management of urban parks for carbon sequestration, and the role of traditional irrigation systems like the dumbeong in supporting coastal social-ecological systems. The lab employs systems thinking, spatial modeling, and virtual simulation to inform evidence-based planning strategies for sustainable urban development.
