研究室紹介

Professor Jin-Kyu Park's research lab specializes in cardiovascular and metabolic disease epidemiology, with a focus on atrial fibrillation, insulin resistance, and vascular aging in Asian populations. The lab investigates the electrophysiological and structural markers of left atrial remodeling, such as P-wave morphology and pulse wave velocity, to predict arrhythmia recurrence and cardiovascular outcomes. They also explore the role of oxidative stress and metabolic factors in liver aging and cardiovascular risk using translational models, including SMP30 knockout mice. Their work integrates clinical cardiology, non-invasive hemodynamic assessment, and population-based longitudinal studies to identify early predictors of cardiovascular disease.

AIMS: We hypothesized that P-wave amplitude in lead I is related to left atrial (LA) remodelling and inter-atrial conduction pattern, and has a predictive value for recurrence after radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) among patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 525 consecutive patients with PAF (76% male, 56 ± 12 years old) who underwent RFCA were included. We compared pre-procedural sinus rhythm electrocardiograms without antiarrhythmic drug eff

Aims Previous studies from Western countries have been unable to demonstrate a relationship between insulin resistance and new-onset atrial fibrillation. We aimed to evaluate this relationship in the nondiabetic Asian population. Methods Between 2001–2003, 8175 adults (mean age 51.5 years, 53% women) without both existing atrial fibrillation and diabetes and with insulin resistance measures at baseline were enrolled and were followed by biennial electrocardiograms thereafter until 2014. We const

Association of the Estimated Pulse Wave Velocity with Cardio-Vascular Disease Outcomes among Men and Women Aged 40–69 Years in the Korean Population: An 18-Year Follow-Up Report on the Ansung–Ansan Cohort in the Korean Genome Environment Study

The estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) can predict adverse cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes in patients with increased CVD risks. However, data on its predictive capacity for CVD outcomes in the general population are limited. This study aimed to investigate the association between the ePWV and CVD outcomes among Korean adults. Ten thousand thirty patients aged 40-69 years from the Ansung-Ansan cohort in a prospective community-based cohort study were followed up for over 18 years. The eP

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The binucleation of hepatocytes, which was known as an important feature of liver growth and physiology, has been reported to be increased during the chronic oxidative injury stage and has been regarded as an age-related change of hepatic structures. Therefore, we investigated the binuclearity pattern in the livers of senescence marker proteins-30 (SMP30) knock-out (KO) mice compared with wild-type (WT) mice and vitamin C-treated KO (KO + VC) mice. METHODS: The WT, KO and KO

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is treated by heart rate (HR) control. However, the optimal HR target in AF patients with heart failure (HF) remains unclear. To evaluate the clinical implication of the resting HR in AF patients with HF accompanied by preserved, mid-range, or reduced ejection fraction (HFpEF, HFmrEF, or HFrEF, respectively). Methods: Echocardiographic data from June 2016 to April 2020 in a prospective, multicenter, observational registry from 11,104 patients were analyzed. T

Background: Although many electrocardiography wearable devices have been released recently for the detection of atrial fibrillation (AF), there are few studies reporting prospective data for wearable devices compared to the strategy of the existing guidelines in the detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) after cryptogenic stroke. A tiny single-patch monitor is more convenient than a conventional Holter monitor recording device and, therefore, longer duration of monitoring may be acceptable. Metho

Myocardial infarction is diagnosed when blood levels of biomarkers are increased in the clinical setting of acute myocardial ischemia. Among the biomarkers, troponin I is the preferred biomarker indicative of myocardial necrosis. It is tissue specific for the heart. Myocardial infarction is rarely reported following seizure. We report a case of elevated troponin I in a patient after an episode of generalized tonic-clonic seizure. The diagnosis was type 2 myocardial infarction.

While physical activity (PA) may influence resting heart rate (RHR), and a low RHR may be a risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF), controversy exists regarding the association between PA and development of AF. Using data from a Korean, prospective population cohort, we investigated the independent effect of PA and RHR on the incidence of AF in the general population. A total of 8,811 participants aged 40-69 years were analyzed. Total PA assessed based on questionnaires was divided into quarti

SGLT-2 inhibitor, traditionally used for glycemic control, has several beneficial effects that can help manage heart failure (HF). SGLT-2 inhibitors reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality in patients with HF. As atrial fibrillation (AF) is closely associated with HF and diabetes mellitus (DM) is a risk factor for AF, we assume that SGLT-2 inhibitors will also show therapeutic benefits regarding AF, especially for rhythm control. This trial has a multicenter, prospective, open, blinded endpo
