研究室紹介
Professor Jisung Shim's research lab specializes in urological surgery, with a focus on improving surgical outcomes through advanced simulation training, optimizing perioperative care, and exploring novel therapeutic approaches for urological conditions. The lab investigates robotic surgery training methodologies, the impact of intraoperative fluid management on recovery, and the role of nutritional supplements like omega-3 fatty acids in treating erectile dysfunction. Additionally, the lab contributes to clinical decision-making in high-risk bladder cancer and rare urological pathologies such as urethral stones. Their work bridges surgical innovation, patient recovery, and translational research in urology.

15BACKGROUND: To compare the superiority of teaching methods for acquiring a proficient level of surgical skill in a robotic surgery-naïve individual using a robotic virtual reality simulator. METHODS: This study employed a prospective, randomized study design to assess student's learning curve. We divided 45 subjects into 3 groups: those with expert proctoring (group I), those who watched only an educational video (group II), and those with independent training (group III; n = 15 per group). The
Abstract This study aimed to investigate the effect of intraoperative fluid volume on the postoperative ileus (POI) recovery period. A retrospective review of the Korean robot-assisted radical cystectomy database identified 718 patients who underwent robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC). Regression analyses were performed to identify the associations between the amount of intraoperative fluid administration (crystalloid/colloid/total), POI period (time to flatus/bowel movements), and length
This multi-institutional cohort study demonstrated the benefits of the ICUD approach, as indicated by lower complication rates and better recovery parameters, although the oncological results were similar to those of ECUD.
Urinary stones are rarely seen in the urethra and are usually encountered in men with urethral stricture or diverticulum. The case of a 52-year-old woman presented, who consulted for weak stream associated with repeated urinary infections. The diverticulum was approached via vaginal route and the extraction was successful. The patient has been well, with no dysuria, dyspareunia, incontinence for 3-month follow-ups.
The aim of this study was to investigate whether the omega-3 fatty acids help to improve erectile function in an atherosclerosis-induced erectile dysfunction rat model. A total of 20 male Sprague-Dawley rats at age 8 weeks were divided into three groups: Control group (n = 6, untreated sham operated rats), Pathologic group (n = 7, untreated rats with chronic pelvic ischemia [CPI]), and Treatment group (n = 7, CPI rats treated with omega-3 fatty acids). For the in vivo study, electrical stimulati
Initial TURBT does not seem to be enough to control T1 high-grade bladder cancer. Therefore, a routine second TURBT procedure should be recommended in patients with T1 high-grade bladder cancer to accomplish adequate tumor resection and to identify patients who may need to undergo prompt cystectomy.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the correlation of serum total testosterone levels with International Prostate Symptom Score and prostate volume in aging men. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 50 men who had participated in a medical examination. Prostate specific antigen levels, International Prostate Symptom Score, total/transitional prostate volume, body mass index, maximal flow rate, and serum total testosterone levels were evaluated. The correlation between serum total testostero
The results of this cross-sectional analysis suggest that the IPSS-s and the OABSS are not significantly correlated. Although both scores are used to measure OAB symptoms, the simultaneous use of IPSS-s and OABSS is not warranted.
Purpose: The goal of this study was to compare the International Prostate Symptom Storage Subscore (IPSS-s) and the overactive bladder symptom score (OABSS) as tools for assessing the symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted of a sample of 1,341 patients aged 50 years and older with lower urinary tract complaints who had undergone a medical examination at one of several centers. For each patient, we reviewed the International Prostate Symptom Score and
PURPOSE: In the endoscopic treatment of vesicoureteral reflux, the relatively high rate of success, the simplicity of the procedure, high patient compliance, and a lack of complications has led to the increased development of injection materials and techniques. We report a method of identifying and maintaining a clear visual field during ureteral and bladder submucosal wall injection of a dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer (Deflux, Oceana, Therapeutics Inc.) by use of the hydrodistention impl

We identified the general characteristics and changes in pattern of female RC. Our results also suggest that women are susceptible to delays in referral to an urologist and are at greater risk for worse prognosis.
