研究室紹介

Professor Jiyoung Seo's research lab focuses on metabolic and endocrine disorders in pediatric and young adult populations, with an emphasis on identifying early risk factors for chronic diseases such as metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. The lab investigates biomarkers, including HbA1c and IGF-I, to understand growth and metabolic health trajectories. It also explores environmental and infectious triggers of rare but severe conditions like hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, particularly in the context of viral infections. Additionally, the lab examines psychosocial aspects of chronic illness, such as distress and quality of life in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Validation of surrogate markers for metabolic syndrome and cardiometabolic risk factor clustering in children and adolescents: A nationwide population-based study
Ji Young Seo, Jae Hyun Kim
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in children is increasing and identifying the risk factors for MetS during childhood is an important first step to prevent chronic diseases later in life. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of MetS and cardiometabolic risk factor (CMRF) clustering among Korean children and adolescents and to validate the associated anthropometric and laboratory surrogate markers. We used data from the 2011-2014 Korean National Health and Nutrition

SJR Q2Water Science & Technology

The fungus Mucor ramannianus was tested to elucidate the biological fate of a class of N-methyl carbamate pesticide carbofuran and its hydrolysed form carbofuran phenol. The elution profile obtained from analysis by high-pressure liquid chromatography equipped with a reverse-phase C-18 column showed that two peaks occurred after incubation of M. ramannianus with which 1 mM carbofuran was combined as a final concentration. In culture of M. ramannianus with 1 mM carbofuran phenol, it produced two

SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

The present study aimed to describe the distribution of and to investigate the factors associated with glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) values in Korean youth (10-19 years old) and young adults (20-29 years old). Data from the Korea Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2011-2015) were used. A total of 6,418 participants (male 3,140 [53.2%]) aged 10-29 years were included in the analysis. Percentiles of HbA1c were calculated and HbA1c values were compared according to age, sex, and associated fac

Factors affecting IGF-I level and correlation with growth response during growth hormone treatment in LG Growth Study

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Growth hormone treatment strategies to achieve the goal include the titration of GH doses according to serum insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) concentrations. However, IGF-I levels do not always correlate well with the growth response. This study aims to identify the factors affecting the IGF-I concentration and identify the relationship between IGF-I and the treatment response. The data of prepubertal children treated with recombinant human GH for more than one year were obtained from the LG

The Korean Journal of HepatologyOA

Hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is a rare but serious condition that is histopathologically characterized by activation of macrophage or histiocytes with hemophagocytosis in bone marrow and reticuloendothelial systems. Clinically it presents with high fever, hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopenia, liver dysfunction, and hyperferritinemia. Hepatitis A virus is a very rare cause of secondary HPS. We report a case of a 22-year-old woman infected by hepatitis A virus who was consequently complicated with HP

Purpose : Vitamin D plays a key role in bone mineralization of the skeleton and vitamin D deficiency can lead to rickets. It is well known that vitamin D deficiency is common in breast fed infants. Of these patients, clinically, some have no signs of rickets, but laboratory and radiographic findings are diagnostic for vitamin D deficiency rickets (subclinical vitamin D deficiency rickets). The purpose of this study is to clarify current causes and ways to prevent this disease. Methods : We revie

PURPOSE: We sought to investigate the effects and side effects of once-weekly dulaglutide treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in patients <18 years of age in Korea. METHODS: : From the Eulji University Hospital database, we identified all patients <18 years of age diagnosed with T2DM and treated with dulaglutide from January 1, 2017, to July 31, 2022. RESULTS: We identified 5 patients <18 years of age treated with dulaglutide for T2DM management. Their mean (standard deviation [SD]) ag

Pediatric Endocrinology of Post-Pandemic Era
Ji Young Seo
Chonnam Medical JournalOA

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in the global health and medical environment. In order to prevent viral transmission, governments implemented strong social distancing, even lockdowns. The closure of schools has reduced physical activity among children and adolescents. Children, especially those with chronic diseases, are often reluctant to visit or even give up visiting hospitals, resulting in delayed diagnosis or missing the right timing for treatment.
