Professor Jo Yong-gyun's research lab specializes in hepatology and metabolic liver diseases, with a primary focus on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), its progression to fibrosis, and its links to metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and related conditions such as colorectal adenomas and diabetes. The lab conducts large-scale cohort studies to explore the impact of lifestyle factors—like modest alcohol consumption—on liver disease outcomes, particularly in low-risk and young populations. They also investigate the role of hepatic steatosis in early fibrosis progression among patients with chronic hepatitis B and the predictive value of metabolic markers in preclinical diabetes. Their work bridges clinical hepatology with metabolic and epidemiological research.
