Professor Jo Young-sam's research lab specializes in neurological and urological disorders, with a primary focus on neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) resulting from spinal cord injury, stroke, or other neurological conditions. The lab investigates neuroprotective strategies, including the use of ulinastatin and stem cell therapy, to mitigate neuronal damage and improve bladder function after acute brain or spinal cord injury. Additionally, the lab explores pharmacological modulators such as caffeine and onabotulinum toxin A to understand their central and peripheral effects on micturition control and to develop targeted treatments for urinary incontinence.
