Professor John Frankl's research lab specializes in the historical and cultural formation of national identity in East Asia, with a particular focus on Korea. The lab explores the evolution of national language, literature, and collective memory, especially in relation to political transformation and cultural resilience. Key research directions include the role of language in nation-building, the impact of colonialism on cultural identity, and the interplay between literature and political sovereignty. The lab also investigates how historical narratives are constructed and transmitted through literary and linguistic practices.
