研究室紹介
Professor Jong Hyuk Chung's research lab specializes in biomaterials and regenerative dentistry, focusing on the development of advanced scaffolds and therapeutic strategies for bone and soft tissue regeneration. Key research directions include the fabrication of drug-eluting nanofibers for controlled osteogenic differentiation, the application of laser technologies (such as Er:YAG and GaAlAs diodes) to enhance implant integration and tissue healing, and the evaluation of bioactive agents like hydroxyapatite in treating dental sensitivity. The lab also investigates the impact of anatomical and systemic factors—such as bone height and osteopenia—on implant stability and tissue repair outcomes.

15Dexamethasone(DEX), a synthetic steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is an efficient and dependable drug that induces osteogenic differentiation. The aim of this study is to fabricate the DEX loaded PLGA nanofibers by electrospinning method. Adipose-derived stem cells(ADSCs) were seeded into the nanofiber and the sustained release of DEX from PLGA nanofiber scaffolds promoted their osteogenic differentiation. The properties of DEX loaded PLGA nanofiber scaffold were characterized by scanning elect
Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare two different gingival depigmentation techniques using an erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser and rotary instruments. Methods: Two patients with melanin pigmentation of gingiva were treated with different gingival depigmentation techniques. Ablation of the gingiva by Er:YAG laser was performed on the right side, and abrasion with a rotary round bur on the opposite side. Results: The patients were satisfied with the esthetically significant i
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the influence of anatomical conditions on primary stability in the models simulating posterior maxilla. Methods: Polyurethane blocks were designed to simulate monocortical (M) and bicortical (B) conditions. Each condition had four subgroups measuring 3 mm (M3, B3), 5 mm (M5, B5), 8 mm (M8, B8), and 12 mm (M12, B12) in residual bone height (RBH). After implant placement, the implant stability quotient (ISQ), Periotest value (PTV), insertion torque (
Purpose: The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of erbium-doped: yttrium, aluminium and garnet (Er:YAG) laser irradiation on sand-blasted, large grit, acid-etched (SLA) implant surface microstructure according to varying energy levels and application times of the laser. Methods: The implant surface was irradiated by the Er:YAG laser under combined conditions of 100, 140, or 180 mJ/pulse and an application time of 1 minute, 1.5 minutes, or 2 minutes. Scanning electron microscopy (
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of low-energy laser(980 nm GaAlAs diode) irradiation on the healing of extraction sockets in ovariectomized(ovx) rats. After ovx and sham operations of 24 female, 12-week-old, Sprague-Dawley rats, 4 weeks have passed for systemic osteopenic changes. Then the first maxillary molars were extracted and only the right sockets were irradiated with laser for 1 minute(30 sec irradiation, 30 sec rest, and 30 sec irradiation) at intervals of 24 hour
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of toothpaste containing hydroxyapatite for patients who complained dental hypersensitivity. Before baseline of application of toothpaste with hydroxyapatite, tooth brushing instruction was done respectively and the several indices were measured at baseline, 2, 4, 8 weeks. Clinical indices were estimated, and responses to cold, compressive air, tactile stimulus were evaluated with verbal rating score. Relief effects and visual analogue scale
Purpose: Pink gingival esthetic especially on the anterior teeth has been an important success criterion in implant-supported restoration. Inter-implant papillae are a critical factor for implant esthetics, and various techniques for inter-implant papilla reconstruction have been introduced. The aim of this study is to suggest and evaluate a surgical technique for reconstructing inter-implant papillae. Methods: A 28-year-old man had an implant placed on the #13 and #14 area. Four months after im
Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare and evaluate the inflammatory responses of three widely used suture materials in the keratinized gingiva and buccal mucosa of beagle dogs. Methods: Silk, polyglycolic acid, and nylon sutures were placed within the mandibular keratinized gingiva and maxillary buccal mucosa of four male beagle dogs. Biopsies were taken 3, 7, and 14 days after suturing. Specimens were prepared with hematoxylin-eosin stain for evaluation under a light microscope. R
Purpose: The aim of this retrospective chart review was to evaluate the four-year survival rate of a titanium implant system. Methods: A total of 352 sand-blasted, thermally acid-etched titanium implants were inserted into 181 partially or completely edentulous patients. Their cumulative survival rate was evaluated retrospectively. Associated factors, such as the implant distribution and treatment type were included in the evaluation. Results: The implants were equally distributed between the ma
Histologic evaluation of the regenerated bone using bone graft materials
Many studies tried to mix two different kinds of graft materials to combine the uses of their differentproperties. The aim of this study was to compare the sandwich and simple mixed graft technique using differentkinds of graft materials such as deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) and mineralized solvent-dehydratedbone (MSDB) for mixed and layered grafts in 1-wall exophytic rabbit calvarial model. Twenty New Zealand whiterabbits were used. After creating surgical defects at calvarium, titan
Purpose: The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of hydroxyapatite dental paste on tooth hypersensitivity compared to other materials. Materials and methods: In the general fluoride dental paste, strontium fluoride dental paste and hydroxyapatite dental paste, patient-performed VAS and VAS(ice test) were measured at baseline, 1weeks and 4weeks. Results: 1. In patient-performed VAS, there were significant differences reducing of tooth hypersensitivity between general fluoride toot
This study was performed to investigate the effect of low-energy laser irradiation on extraction socket healing in strptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. 24 male rats(about 12 weeks old) were divided into 4 groups : 1) Extraction and natural healing in normal rat for control group, 2) Extraction and low-energy irradiation therapy in normal rat for experimental group I, 3) Extraction and natural healing in streptozotocin-induced rat for experimental group II, 4) Extraction and low-energy irradiatio
Fimbriae (fimA) of Porphyromonas gingivalis are filamentous components on the cell surface and are thought to play an important role in the colonization and invasion of periodontal tissue. P. gnigivalis fimA gene encoding fimbrillin, a subunit of fimbriae, has been classified into 5 genotypes (typesⅠ to Ⅴ) based on the nucleotide sequences. In the present study, we examined the prevalence of these fimA genotypes in patients with dental implant and the relationship between prevalence of these gen
