研究室紹介

Professor Jong-Sook Park's research lab focuses on metabolic and cardiovascular health, with a primary emphasis on identifying and evaluating biomarkers for insulin resistance, arterial stiffness, and subclinical atherosclerosis in Korean adult populations. The lab investigates the role of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index as a surrogate marker for insulin resistance and its associations with coronary artery calcification and arterial stiffness. Additional research explores the impact of long-term metformin use on vitamin B12 deficiency and the relationship between environmental exposures—such as mercury—and obesity-related metabolic risk factors. The lab employs advanced imaging techniques and biochemical assessments to understand early cardiovascular disease progression in asymptomatic individuals.

SJR Q1Diabetes CareOA

OBJECTIVE To investigate the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index association with coronary artery calcification (CAC) progression in adult Koreans. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Various cardiovascular risk factors and anthropometric profiles were assessed in 1,175 subjects who previously had a CAC evaluation at least twice by multidetector computed tomography in a health care center. The TyG index was determined using ln(fasting triglycerides [mg/dL] × fasting glucose [mg/dL]/2). The CAC progression

SJR Q1Cardiovascular DiabetologyOA

BACKGROUND: The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index has been suggested as a simple surrogate marker of insulin resistance. However, there are limited data regarding the association between the TyG index and arterial stiffness in adults. Therefore, we evaluated the relationship between the TyG index and arterial stiffness as measured based on brachial ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in Korean adults. METHODS: A total of 3587 subjects were enrolled in this study. Anthropometric and cardiovascular r

SJR Q1Cardiovascular DiabetologyOA

BACKGROUND: The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index has been considered a simple surrogate marker of insulin resistance. However, few studies have investigated the relationship between the TyG index and coronary artery calcification (CAC). Thus, we investigated the relationship between the TyG index and CAC in healthy Korean adults. METHODS: In total, 4319 participants who underwent cardiac computed tomography (CT) in a health promotion center were enrolled. Anthropometric profiles and multiple car

SJR Q3MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Metformin can cause serum vitamin B12 deficiency, but studies on the influence of its duration and dose are lacking. We investigated vitamin B12 deficiency in patients with type 2 diabetes using metformin, in conjunction with other related factors. METHOD: This cross-sectional study included 1111 patients with type 2 diabetes who took metformin for at least 6 months. Serum vitamin B12 levels were quantified using a competitive-binding immunoenzymatic assay, and vitamin B12 deficiency

Association between atherogenic index of plasma and coronary artery calcification progression in Korean adults

SJR Q1Lipids in Health and DiseaseOA

BACKGROUND: Dyslipidemia is a well-known risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Recently, atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) has been proposed as a novel predictive marker for CVD, and few cross sectional studies have demonstrated a relationship between AIP and coronary artery disease. The present study investigated the association between AIP and the progression of coronary artery calcification (CAC) in Korean adults without CVD. METHODS: A total of 1124 participants who had undergone CAC

SJR Q1Diabetes & Metabolism JournalOA

Background: Few studies have examined the association between mercury exposure and obesity. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between blood mercury concentrations and indices of obesity in adults. Methods: A total of 200 healthy subjects, aged 30 to 64 years, who had no history of cardiovascular or malignant disease, were examined. Anthropometric and various biochemical profiles were measured. Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry

SJR Q1Cardiovascular DiabetologyOA

BACKGROUND: The relationship between body composition parameters such as thigh and calf circumference and insulin resistance or atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetes is poorly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, and thigh and calf circumference in patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: A total of 4,427 subjects with type 2 diabetes were enrolled in this study. Insulin sensitivity was assessed according the rate constant

SJR Q1European Journal of EndocrinologyOA

OBJECTIVE: Osteoprotegerin (OPG) acts as an important regulatory molecule in atherosclerosis. Recent studies report that thiazolidinediones could affect OPG expression. We investigated the relationship between OPG and inflammatory cytokines and the effects of pioglitazone (a PPARγ (PPARG) agonist) versus metformin on serum OPG levels in type 2 diabetic patients. DESIGN AND METHODS: Sixty-seven type 2 diabetic patients were included in this study. They were assigned to pioglitazone (15 mg/day, n=

A simple, accurate and reproducible reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method was developed for qualitative and quantitative determination of four bioactive flavonoids (ampelopsin, taxifolin, myricetin and quercetin) from the fruit-stalk extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunb. Chromatographic separation was performed on a C18 column (4.6 × 150 mm, 3.5 µm) with mobile phase consisting of 0.1% acetic acid and 100% acetonitrile at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The analysis was performed using a diode arra

SJR Q2AngiologyOA

The plasma atherogenic index (AIP) has been suggested as a useful independent predictor of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in high CV risk patients. We investigated the association between AIP and arterial stiffness measured by brachial–ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) in healthy adults. A total of 3468 healthy subjects without any metabolic or CV diseases were enrolled. Anthropometric and CV risk factors were measured. The AIP was defined as the base 10 logarithm of the ratio of the concentrati

This study's aim was to investigate coping strategies and their relationship to symptoms in people at ultra high risk (UHR) for psychosis compared with recent-onset schizophrenia (SPR) and healthy controls. Thirty-three UHR participants, 22 SPR patients, and 33 healthy controls completed the Ways of Coping Questionnaire and other clinical measures. People at UHR for psychosis showed significantly more reliance on tension-reduction and less reliance on problem-focused coping than healthy controls
