研究室紹介

Professor Joo Hyun Oh's research lab focuses on translational and clinical research in oncology, gastrointestinal disorders, and metabolic liver diseases. The lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying cancer progression—particularly in breast and hepatocellular carcinoma—while exploring the role of gut microbiota in metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). It also examines the impact of probiotics on irritable bowel syndrome and rare complications such as silicone migration following breast implant rupture. The lab emphasizes multidisciplinary approaches to improve diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes in complex chronic diseases.

Identification of differentially expressed genes associated with HER- 2/neu overexpression in human breast cancer cells
Joo Hyun Oh
SJR Q1Nucleic Acids ResearchOA

Amplification and resulting overexpression of the HER-2/ neu proto-oncogene is found in approximately 30% of human breast and 20% of human ovarian cancers. To better understand the molecular events associated with overexpression of this gene in human breast cancer cells, differential hybridization was used to identify genes whose expression levels are altered in cells overexpressing this receptor. Of 16 000 clones screened from an overexpression cell cDNA library, a total of 19 non-redundant clo

Comparison of outcome between liver resection, radiofrequency ablation, and transarterial therapy for multiple small hepatocellular carcinoma within the Milan criteria

Resection was associated with better RFS than RFA or TACE and showed comparable OS in multiple HCC patients within the Milan criteria, but at a cost of slightly increased risk of complication. Resection can be considered as a first-line option if selected appropriately.

Efficacy and Safety of New Lactobacilli Probiotics for Unconstipated Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial
Joo Hyun Oh, Yeon Sil Jang, Danbee Kang, Dong Kyung Chang, Yang Won Min
SJR Q1NutrientsOA

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common and chronic gastrointestinal disorder. Probiotics may have the potential to impact the management of IBS; however, the results of trials are conflicting. This study aimed to investigate whether a mixture of lactobacilli probiotics could improve abdominal symptoms in patients with unconstipated IBS. Fifty Vietnamese patients with unconstipated IBS were randomly assigned to either the probiotics or placebo groups. During the intervention, participants too

Characterization of Gut Microbiome in Korean Patients with Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease

SJR Q1NutrientsOA

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a new concept where the presence of both fatty liver and metabolic abnormality are necessary for diagnosis. Several studies have reported that altered gut microbiome is closely associated with metabolic diseases and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, the studies on MAFLD population are scarce. This prospective study aimed to identify differences in gut microbiome between patients with MAFLD and healthy controls in Korean population. In

Distant Migration of Multiple Siliconomas in Lower Extremities following Breast Implant Rupture: Case Report
Joo Hyun Oh, Seung Yong Song, Dae Hyun Lew, Dong Won Lee
SJR Q2Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Global OpenOA

Summary: Siliconoma from ruptured breast implants has been reported in multiple body sites, including but not limited to the breast parenchyma, axillary lymph nodes, upper arm, and even lower leg. In this regard, we report a rare case of distant silicone migration to the lower extremities after traumatic breast implant rupture. A 55-year-old Asian woman who received bilateral augmentation mammoplasty 20 years ago presented with ruptured breast implants from a car accident 2 years earlier. Magnet

Multidisciplinary approach for hepatocellular carcinoma patients: current evidence and future perspectives
Joo Hyun Oh, Dong Hyun Sinn
SJR Q1Journal of Liver CancerOA

Management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is challenging due to the complex relationship between underlying liver disease, tumor burden, and liver function. HCC is also notorious for its high recurrence rate even after curative treatment for early-stage tumor. Liver transplantation can substantially alter patient prognosis, but donor availability varies by each patient which further complicates treatment decision. Recent advancements in HCC treatments have introduced numerous potentially effi

A Genome Segment on Mouse Chromosome 12 Determines Maxillary Growth

SJR Q1Journal of Dental Research

The primary and modifier genes that regulate normal maxillofacial development are unknown. Previous quantitative trait locus (QTL) analyses using the F2 progeny of 2 mouse strains, DBA/2J (short snout/wide face) and C57BL/6J (long snout/narrow face), revealed a significant logarithm-of-odds (LOD) score for snout length on mouse chromosome 12 at 44 centimorgan (cM). We further sought to validate this locus contributing to anterior-posterior dimensions of the upper mid-face at the D12Mit7 marker i

SJR Q2Archives of Plastic SurgeryOA

BACKGROUND: The current indications of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) have expanded to include young patients with serious cardiac risk factors, but CIED placement has the disadvantage of involving unsightly scarring and bulging of the chest wall. A collaborative team of cardiologists and plastic surgeons developed a technique for the subpectoral placement of CIEDs in young female patients via a transaxillary approach. METHODS: From July 2012 to December 2015, subpectoral CIED pl
