研究室紹介

Professor Joo Yeon Ko's research lab specializes in dermatological pathology and clinical dermatology, with a focus on rare and pigmented skin disorders, benign and malignant neoplasms of the skin, and inflammatory and autoimmune cutaneous conditions. The lab conducts retrospective clinical and histopathological studies to better understand the epidemiology, clinical features, and pathological characteristics of diseases such as erythema dyschromicum perstans, plexiform schwannoma, myopericytoma, onychomycosis, and subtypes of cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Their work emphasizes detailed patient cohort analyses to inform diagnosis, treatment outcomes, and disease progression in Korean populations.

SJR Q1The Journal of DermatologyOA

Erythema dyschromicum perstans (EDP) is a hypermelanotic disorder of the idiopathic variety characterized by blue-gray macules in healthy individuals. It has been described mainly in patients from tropical areas of Central and South America. Our aim was to evaluate EDP in Korea through the analysis of retrospective case series with EDP and to describe the clinical and histopathological features. It was a retrospective study (2002-2012) of EDP confirmed by review of clinical photographs and biops

SJR Q3Annals of DermatologyOA

Plexiform schwannoma is a rare benign neoplasm of the neural sheath characterized by a multinodular plexiform growth pattern. The tumor usually occurs as an isolated finding, although rare cases have been reported in association with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). A 25-year-old man was admitted for foot drop. He had an asymptomatic skin-colored nodule on his neck that had been present for 10 years. His medical history included local excision of a plexiform schwannoma on his left leg in our derm

SJR Q1Pathology International

Myopericytoma is a benign neoplasm consisting of cells that appear to have a distinct differentiation towards presumed perivascular myoid cells. Amongst myopericytoma, an intravascular variant appears to have been reported only rarely. A 67-year-old man presented with a 15-year history of a painful, slow growing 3 × 3.5 cm sized mass in the subcutis of his right lateral thigh. Histopathological studies showed a subcutaneous mass entirely within the lumen of a vein. The tumor was composed of spin

SJR Q1MycosesOA

Many factors affect the cure rate (CR), duration required for complete cure (DC) and the recurrence rate (RR) of onychomycosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the CR, DC and RR in onychomycosis according to various clinical factors. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 637 Korean patients with onychomycosis between December 2000 and December 2006. We examined six clinical factors to evaluate the effects on the CR, DC and RR: age, sex, clinical type, treatment pattern, presence o

SJR Q1The Journal of Dermatology

An understanding of the differences in clinical manifestations and laboratory abnormalities between subtypes of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is still lacking. The purpose of this study was to analyze demographic, clinical and histological features of CLE according to three main presentation subsets: acute (ACLE), subacute (SCLE) and chronic (CCLE). A 10-year retrospective analysis was performed on data from patients who were diagnosed with CLE between March 2005 and September 2015 in a Ko

Background: Although oral isotretinoin is an effective established therapy for acne, Korean data related with this therapy is very limited. Moreover, there is no published data available on the efficacy of this drug that uses a grading system suitable for Korean acne patients. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of oral isotretinoin (Roaccutane®) by using the Korean Acne Grading System (KAGS) and the general satisfaction of patients in treating acne. Methods: In this

SJR Q2Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy

<b>Background</b>: Despite various treatments attempts, no prospective studies have compared the different therapeutic modalities for treatment of idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH). This study aimed to compare the efficacy of CO2 fractional laser (CO₂FL), Er:YAG fractional laser (EYFL), and 0.025% topical tretinoin for treating IGH. <b>Materials and Methods</b>: A total of 122 lesions were analyzed from 18 patients (mean age, 70.00 ± 20.00 years). SJR Q2Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy

A novel photopneumatic (PPX) technology, combining blue light-emitting diode (LED) and broadband intense pulsed light (IPL) with vacuum pressure, was developed for the treatment of acne vulgaris (AV). In this study, we enrolled 50 patients with mild to moderate AV. Five successive treatments were performed on one side of the face with a combined PPX device, and the opposite side was treated with only IPL with the same fluences at 2-week intervals. Clinical improvement was evaluated by inflammato

SJR Q2Journal of Cutaneous Pathology

BACKGROUND: The exact pathogenesis of morphea is poorly understood, and only a few clinical or histopathological studies have been conducted in Asian patients. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify the clinical and histopathological characteristics of morphea in Korean patients. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 101 patients whose clinicopathologic findings were compatible with morphea and analyzed demographic characteristics, number of lesions, disease subty
