Professor Joo-Young Baek's research lab focuses on building energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality, with a strong emphasis on human behavior in buildings—particularly window blind usage and its impact on thermal comfort and energy consumption. The lab also investigates the intersection of health and environmental factors, as seen in studies on depression prevalence among patients undergoing hepatitis C treatment, highlighting a multidisciplinary approach that bridges architectural science, occupant behavior, and health outcomes. Current research directions include developing intelligent building control systems based on real human behavior data and exploring the psychosocial impacts of medical treatments in clinical environments. The lab integrates empirical surveys, clinical data analysis, and energy modeling to create sustainable and human-centered building solutions.
