Professor Ju Young Chang's research lab focuses on pediatric gastrointestinal and immune-mediated diseases, with a strong emphasis on the role of the gut microbiota in conditions such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and autoimmune hepatitis. The lab investigates microbial dysbiosis in early-life intestinal colonization, particularly in preterm and neonatal infants, using advanced 16S rRNA sequencing technologies. Additionally, the lab explores regenerative medicine applications through the isolation and characterization of mesenchymal stem cells and growth factors from Wharton’s jelly, highlighting translational potential in tissue repair and immune modulation.

The present study found that portacaval shunt operation increases the risk of development of hepatic adenoma in GSD patients, especially in GSD type I. The hepatic adenoma in GSD patients has a potential of malignant transformation, which should be keep in mind in follow-up process of the disease.

Increase in age of infected, hospitalized children was accompanied by change in clinical severity during 2011-2014 after the introduction of vaccines in Seoul. Clinical severity was also associated with vaccination status and genotype.
