研究室紹介

Professor Jun Eun Park's research lab focuses on translational and molecular oncology, with a strong emphasis on understanding the pathogenesis and treatment of pediatric cancers, including medulloblastoma, Wilms tumor, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The lab investigates genetic and molecular markers such as 1p/16q loss of heterozygosity in Wilms tumor and chromosomal translocations in B-cell precursor ALL, aiming to improve risk stratification and therapeutic outcomes. Additionally, the lab explores the protective mechanisms of natural compounds like Cordyceps militaris extract and hispidin against oxidative stress in cellular models, highlighting a dual interest in both cancer biology and cytoprotective agents. The integration of molecular diagnostics, preclinical models, and clinical data underscores the lab’s commitment to precision medicine in pediatric oncology.

SJR Q1NutrientsOA

Oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS) is the major cause of degenerative disorders including aging and disease. In this study, we investigated whether Cordyceps militaris extract (CME) has in vitro protective effects on hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress in human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). Our results showed that the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity of CME was increased in a dose-dependent manner. We found that hydrogen peroxide treatme

Cytoprotective Effect of Hispidin against Palmitate-Induced Lipotoxicity in C2C12 Myotubes

SJR Q1MoleculesOA

It is well known that Phellinus linteus, which produces hispidin and its derivatives, possesses antioxidant activities. In this study, we investigated whether hispidin has protective effects on palmitate-induced oxidative stress in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells. Our results showed that palmitate treatment in C2C12 myotubes increased ROS generation and cell death as compared with the control. However, pretreatment of hispidin for 8 h improved the survival of C2C12 myotubes against palmitate-induced

The efficacy and toxicity of high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (HDCT/ASCT) were investigated for improving the outcomes of patients with relapsed medulloblastoma. A total of 15 patients with relapsed medulloblastoma were enrolled in the KSPNO-S-053 study from May 2005 to May 2007. All patients received approximately 4 cycles of salvage chemotherapy after relapse. Thirteen underwent HDCT/ASCT; CTE and CM regimen were employed for the first HDCT (HDCT1) and second HDC

Blasts showing hemophagocytosis have been very rarely reported in acute lymphoblastic leukemia. We report a pediatric case of B lymphoblastic leukemia (BLL) with t(12;21)(p13;q22); TEL-AML1 (ETV6-RUNX1) showing erythrophagocytosis and thrombophagocytosis by leukemic blasts. About 4% of the leukemic blasts in marrow aspirate smears showed phagocytosis of erythrocytes, platelets, or nuclear remnants in a 3-year-old Korean boy with a diagnosis of BLL. PURPOSE: Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at chromosomes 1p and 16q is a poor prognostic factor in favorable histology Wilms tumor (FHWT). This study investigated the prevalence of LOH at 1p and 16q and evaluated its prognostic value in Korean children with FHWT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed 101 FHWT patients who were diagnosed between 1996 and 2016 in Korean Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Group hospitals. Using paraffin-embedded kidney tissue samples sent from each center, we review

Systemic Juvenile Xanthogranuloma Involving the Bone Marrow, Multiple Bones, and the Skin That Developed During Treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Remission State

SJR Q2Pediatric and Developmental Pathology

Juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG) is a rare benign disorder classified as non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis, with unclear etiology and pathogenesis. JXG is generally characterized by solitary or multiple cutaneous nodules that resolve spontaneously over a few years. JXG rarely presents as extracutaneous lesions that progress to a symptomatic systemic disorder through multiple organ involvement. We encountered a systemic JXG case involving the bone marrow, multiple bones, and the skin during acute l

SJR Q3Journal of International Medical ResearchOA

OBJECTIVE: Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) may be at increased risk of psychiatric disorders. This study analyzed the incidence of psychiatric disorders in children with ALL in South Korea. METHODS: Using nationwide claims data for January 2009 to March 2016, we identified three major psychiatric disorders (depression, anxiety and stress/adjustment disorder) among children diagnosed with ALL. We analyzed the incidence of psychiatric disorders before and after ALL diagnosis. RESU

Interferon-Induced Transmembrane Protein 1 (IFITM1) Is Downregulated in Neurofibromatosis Type 1-Associated Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumors

SJR Q1International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), an autosomal dominant genetic disorder, is caused by mutations in the NF1 gene, which encodes the GTPase-activating protein neurofibromin. The pathogenesis of the tumor progression of benign plexiform neurofibromas (PNs) and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) remain unclear. Here, we found that interferon-induced transmembrane protein 1 (IFITM1) was downregulated in MPNST tissues compared to those in PN tissues from patients with NF1. Overexpression

Abstract OBJECTIVES: Kikuchi’s disease (KD) is a benign, self-limiting disorder of unknown origin with lymphadenopathy and fever, and prevalent in young Asian women. The initial presentations mimic malignancies or other serious infections, and the biopsy of lymph nodes affected is the only definite diagnostic tool of KD. We analyzed data from a series of pediatric cases collected at a single medical center and suggest proper guideline of management for patients with KD. METHODS: The medical reco
